Toyota to Launch 7-Seater Hyryder and Urban Cruiser EV in 2025

Japanese automaker, Toyota ended the last financial year, that's 2024-25, on a high note. The company had sold a total of 3,37,148 vehicles in FY24-25 as compared to 2,63,512 units in the FY23-24, reporting a YoY sales growth of 28 percent. In order to further accelerate growth, Toyota plans to launch two new SUVs in the Indian market in FY2025-26.

7-Seater Hyryder

Toyota will launch a new 7-seater SUV based on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the country in 2025. The new 7-seater Hyryder will be based on the upcoming Maruti 7-seater Grand Vitara that has been caught testing on the Indian roads. Both SUVs will be manufactured at Suzuki's new Kharkhoda based production plant in Haryana.

The 7-seater SUV will have a longer wheelbase and increased length for the inclusion of a third row of seats. Adding to it, Toyota will utilize Hyryder's boot space to add the additional seat. The Toyota Hyryder 7-seater SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus

The SUV will be offered with two engine options - a 1.5L K15 mild-hybrid petrol engine and a 1.5L TNGA strong hybrid engine. The 7-seater Hyryder will be the most fuel efficient SUV in its category. We expect the SUV to offer a mileage of over 25kmpl.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

The Japanese brand will finally enter the EV space in India with the Urban Cruiser EV, which was showcased in concept avatar at the Auto Expo 2025. It is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2025. The electric SUV will be manufactured at Suzuki's Gujarat based plant and will also be exported to Japan and other international markets.

The Urban Cruiser EV will be offered with two battery variants - a 49kWh and a 61kWh. The entry-level model with a 49kWh battery pack will have a 143hp front axle-mounted electric motor, while the larger 61 kWh battery will have a 173hp front axle-mounted electric motor. Both offers 193Nm of peak torque. The bigger battery pack will also have a dual-motor AWD setup that offers 184hp and 300Nm of torque.
