Volkswagen has just unveiled the new third-gen Tiguan SUV globally. The SUV is expected to go on sale internationally in 2024. Being an all-new model, the Volkswagen Tiguan sports fresh styling, a completely revamped interior, and updated powertrain options. We take a closer look.

The third-gen Tiguan is underpinned by Volkswagen cars MQB-EVO platform that is shared by a number of VW and Skoda models globally. The automaker stated that the new Tiguan has been developed parallely with the new Passat sedan. Both models get VW’s upgraded connectivity and digital functions.
In terms of design, the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan gets VW's new, curvier design language. The front end gets IQ Light HD Matrix headlights with up to 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs and is connected by a thin LED strip. The side profile features strong character lines, aluminium roof rails, and new 20-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear end of the Tiguan gets new LED tail lights connected by three individual LED clusters integrated into the boot lid.

The changes to the interior of the new Tiguan are arguably even more impressive than the exterior. It gets an all-new cabin that is more minimalist, uses upmarket materials, better features, and increased cabin space.
Headline features include a new control matrix, redesigned air vents, a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch or 15-inch infotainment system, and Haptic Touch climate controls. The Tiguan is built on VW’s latest MUB4 digital menu structure, and also a backlit slider controller. Interestingly, the steering wheel features physical multifunctional buttons instead of the touch-sensitive capacitive controls of the outgoing model.
The third-gen Tiguan will be offered with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol motor with mild-hybrid assistance that makes either 131 bhp or 150 bhp of peak power. There is also a 2-litre TSI petrol option that makes 204 bhp or 265 bhp of max power. The Tiguan retains its 2-litre TDI diesel that makes 150 bhp or 193 bhp of peak power but gets a raft of changes to the exhaust system.
Moving to the strong-hybrid option, VW has paired the 1.5-litre TSI petrol with a more powerful electric motor. Peak power remains the same at 204 bhp or 272 bhp. The electric motor is powered by a larger 19.2 kWh battery, which promises an electric-only range of up to 100 km and supports 50 kW DC fast charging.
Transmission options include a 7-speed DSG auto for the petrol and diesel models and a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission for the strong hybrids.
VW already offers the current-gen Tiguan in India, which is priced at Rs 35.17 lakh (ex-showroom). With the global launch slated for next year, expect the new Tiguan to reach our shores around late-2024 or early-2025.
