The electric SUV market is witnessing rapid growth in India. Mahindra and BYD are exciting the market by offering various options to buyers. It will provide a futuristic design, modern technology, and fast charging, and is based on the advanced INGLO platform from Mahindra.
The BYD Atto 3 is already on sale in the country. This car flaunts a sporty design, premium features, and the unique Blade Battery of BYD. These two SUVs offer style, performance, and practicality. Let's compare them in some key areas.
The Mahindra XEV 9e has two battery packs: 59kWh and 79kWh, with a top range of over 600 km. It also has a fast charger of 175kW. Its battery pack can be charged from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes. The motor delivers 231-286 horsepower but sends power only to the rear wheels.
BYD Atto 3 is equipped with BYD's Blade Battery technology. It comes in two variants: 49.92kWh with a range of 468 km, and 60.48kWh with a range of 521 km. A support of fast charging at 80kW takes 50 minutes to reach 0–80%. The motor produces 201hp and 310Nm of torque.

Mahindra XEV 9e has a bold, futuristic design. It flaunts sleek LED headlamps and sharp body lines. Its coupe-like roofline gives it a sporty look. While the stretch across the rear is that of LED tail lamps. Its large alloy wheels do improve its aerodynamic profile.
The BYD Atto 3 has sportiness with a pretty conventional SUV look. The front features a closed grille, chrome trims, and LED headlights. Roof rail and turbine-inspired alloy wheels enhance its style and practicality. The rear is a modern LED light bar that connects the tail lamps.
The Mahindra XEV 9e comes with a lavish feature-loaded interior. Its dashboard is loaded with three 12.3-inch screens of Mahindra's Adrenox software. An illuminated logo at the front of the flat-bottom steering wheel is another notable feature of it. It gets a panoramic sunroof with ambient lighting, climate control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a multi-functional steering wheel, LEVEL 2+ ADAS and others.
The BYD Atto 3 is for comfort and functionality. It has a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen and a digital 5-inch instrument cluster. With a panoramic sunroof-powered seat and wireless charging, it will also have ambient lighting. The boot space occupies 440 liters and widens to 1,338 liters.

Mahindra XEV 9e has well-developed safety features. One gets very sharp braking because of the brake-by-wire technology. The semi-active suspension system with the dynamic adjustment of damping made the ride smooth. It arrives with multiple drive modes providing stability on various terrains. It is built on the robust INGLO platform that gives strong crash protection as well. The company hasn't updated information about airbags and ADAS, but it will be very competitive in the safety aspect.
The BYD Atto 3 comes with seven airbags, one at the center of the driver, and a host of other protective features such as full ADAS including lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. Other key features comprise a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and hill descent control. Another safety feature is BYD's blade battery, which is collision- and fire-resistant.
The Mahindra XEV 9e price starts from Rs. 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The variant-wise pricing will be announced in January 2025. It will rival the upcoming Tata Harrier EV and Safari EV.
BYD Atto 3 is available in Dynamic, Premium, and Superior grades. The model is priced between Rs. 24.99 lakh and Rs. 25.99 lakh. Different options for warranty are also there, such as 8 years or 1.6 lakh km on the battery.
