Skoda Auto is all set to enter a new era with the introduction of its first sub-4 m SUV (Kylaq) in India. The new Kylaq will make its global premiere on November 6, 2024. This compact SUV will be based on the tweaked version of the MQB-AO-IN platform. Some first-in-segment features will also be on offer.
Let's find out the key features of the upcoming Skoda compact SUV.
The sub-4m segment is the fastest-growing segment in India as it holds about 30 percent of the total Indian car market. In this crowded market, Skoda aims to add a new dimension to the Kylaq by providing segment-first features.
Skoda confirms the new Kylaq will get first-in-class 6-way adjustable driver and passenger seats with ventilation functionality. Although the interior of this car is yet to be revealed, we expect it to get similar tech features as Kushaq. The sub-4 meter SUV rides on 2566mm long wheelbase that’s one of the longest in its category. Its wheelbase is 66mm longer than the Brezza and 68mm longer than the Nexon
Some of the features might include a 10-inch touchscreen, a wireless phone charger, a single-pane sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. To ensure the best safety for the cabin, the compact SUV will receive the best-in-segment hot-formed steel for the front crash module.
The Kylaq will be based on the MQB-AO-IN platform shared by Slavia and Kushaq. However, Skoda will tweak the platform for the sub-4m SUV. Beneath the hood, it will house a 1.0-litre TSI engine paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine can churn out the maximum power of 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
Since Skoda is entering the crowded sub-4m category, it will price the new Kylaq competitively. The car is expected to cost around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Nissan Magnite.
