The new variant of compact SUV by Tata Motors has unveiled at the 2025 Mobility Expo, known as the Tata Punch Flex Fuel. Instead of other flex fuel cars that can only handle up to 85% ethanol blend, it can run 100% on ethanol. This would make the Punch Flex Fuel be able to operate on E100, which would be more environmental friendly and even fuel efficient.
The Tata Punch Flex Fuel packs the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as its standard counterpart that does 86 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. Only this time around, it would be tuned for ethanol, ensuring it is far cleaner than petro. For transmission, expect the vehicle with two options-a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
All other things except the engine and the fuel system will be the same, so it has the same length and width dimensions as the usual Punch. 10.25-inch touchscreen will be featured as well as other modern features: two-spoke steering wheel - all to give a comfortable ride exactly like in regular Punch.
It marks Tata Motors's latest launch with Tata Punch Flex Fuel, which stands ready for the stiff stringent emission norms BS7, in which India would be implementing these very soon. In general, more so than being related to curb emissions from the vehicles, it promotes clean energy consumption. It has placed Tata Motors at a strategic position, given the flex fuel technology with the brand seen as a pioneer and in readiness with the change of tide.
Through boosting the use of ethanol, the Indian government has been capable of producing ethanol from raw material resources available locally, such as sugarcane and grains. This decreases reliance on foreign oil, supports local agriculture, and provides employment. It is also considered to be a cleaner fuel that would help in reducing vehicle emissions of carbon.
When the likes of Tata Motors come out in favor of ethanol, strategic advantage is possible in the situation. It will be one of those instances where companies like them are championing sustainability by way of flex fuel cars. While supporting the notion, on the other side, there's also the voice to better improve the infrastructure, spreading these ethanol fuel stations throughout the country, that help find both sustainable and more profitable futures for the industry and the government.
