India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
The Suzuki Alto is one of Japan’s most iconic kei cars that has always been favoured for its compact design, practicality, and affordability. It was first introduced back in 1979 and is currently serving in its ninth-generation avatar. The hatchback’s existing model retained the original simplified design while featuring Suzuki’s hybrid tech, improved cabin, and ADAS suite. As per fresh reports coming from Japan, the Alto is ready for a generational shift in 2026. It will be its tenth-generation model with a lightweight body build and better fuel efficiency.
The Japanese automaker has already confirmed that the all-new Suzuki Alto will be significantly lighter than its current generation, which weighs around 680kg–760kg. It will be nearly 100kg lighter, achieved with the usage of fewer plastic parts and a more advanced version of the Heartech platform. This architecture is made up of ultra and advanced high-tensile steel (UHSS & AHSS).
Furthermore, the Heartech platform is claimed to have a precisely designed underbody structure that not only ensures smoother dispersion of energy during impacts but also enhanced protection for occupants.
The lighter body construction will certainly improve its fuel efficiency. The 2026 Suzuki Alto, with a better power-to-weight ratio and reduced carbon footprint, will promise higher mileage. The hatchback’s new-generation version is expected to come with the 48V Super Ene Charge system instead of the 12V mild hybrid tech used in Suzuki’s existing kei cars in Japan.
Additionally, the existing 2kW electric motor will be replaced with a leaner 10kW electric motor offering 30 percent of the vehicle’s total power supply. The 49PS naturally aspirated petrol engine is likely to be retained.
As of now, there is no official word on the new-gen Suzuki Alto. However, the hatchback with the all-new powertrain and lighter body build will offer fuel efficiency of over 30kmpl.
