Japanese automaker, Suzuki is reportedly working on the next-gen Alto hatchback, which is expected to be released in 2026. The 10th generation Maruti Alto is also likely to be launched in our market sometime in 2027. A new Japanese media reports that the next-gen Suzuki Alto will be around 100kgs lighter than the existing model.
The Suzuki Alto is already one of the most lightest cars in category, which in many ways contributes to its impressive efficiency and easy handling. The report claims that the new Alto will be around 100kgs lighter, which could further improve its efficiency and handling. The current model weighs around 680-760kgs, while the next-gen Alto is expected to have a kerb weight of around 580-660kgs.
The current Alto is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of up to 25.2kmpl. With lighter body, we expect the fuel efficiency figures could increase to up to 30kmpl. The next-gen Maruti Suzuki Alto is also expected to receive a mild-hybrid engine, as the current India-spec model is offered with a pure petrol engine. The Japanese-spec Alto is available with both petrol and mild-hybrid engines.
The next generation Maruti Suzuki Alto will be based on the new generation HEARTECT architecture, which is versatile enough to accommodate different size cars and SUVs. It underpins several small and compact cars including the WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Fronx and others.
In order to reduce weight, Suzuki is expected to use ultra-high tensile steel and advanced high tensile steel, which are lighter and stronger.
