Tata is set to introduce a new addition to its SUV lineup, the Curvv, in both ICE and EV avatars by this festive season. Positioned above the Nexon, comparisons between the two are inevitable, although specific details about Curvv’s specification aren’t yet official, we are relying on estimates from experts and media reports.

The Curvv ICE will be based on Tata Motors’ X1 platform, which also underpins the Nexon, whereas the Curvv EV will utilise the skateboard Acti.ev architecture. A major differentiation is evident as the upcoming car is cut out in a sports coupe format. The Curvv is a mid-size SUV, implying it runs over four metres, in contrast to the Nexon’s 3.9 metres.
Teaser and spy images suggest that the Curvv ICE sports a higher ground clearance and petal-shaped 18-inch alloy wheels finished in dual-tone. Tata’s challenge will be to adapt their tried-and-tested X1 platform to accommodate higher ground clearance and taller body for high-speed stability.
Reports suggest it will get a panoramic sunroof letting in more light in the cabin, giving it an airy feeling. Then, it would also have front power-adjustable seats and a Level 2 Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Notably, there will be LED DRLs at the front, a feature absent in its younger sibling.
Other amenities include dual-zone climate control AC, wireless charging, ventilated seats, a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, paddle shifters, 12.3-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Curvv EV will also have V2L (vehicle to load) functionality as well.
The homegrown brand had showcased a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine displacing 1,198 cc which will propel the SUV. This direct injection motor is capable of generating 123bhp and 225 Nm of pull force. For reference, the current Nexon’s 1.2 turbo petrol mill churns out 118bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque.
It will also be offered in the diesel guise and likely borrow Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel engine with power and torque figures of 114 bhp and 260 Nm, respectively. Curvv EV’s battery and motor specifications are still under an embargo but we expect it to offer a range of up to 500 kilometres.
When it comes to transmission duties, a six-speed manual, automatic or dual-clutch can be paired to the engine lineup depending on the variant chosen.
