An engine plays a significant role in a car. As long as the engine is running smoothly, it keeps your vehicle moving. However, we don't pay much attention to the engine unless any major fault takes place. To avoid premature engine failure, it is necessary to check it regularly and perform the mandatory tasks to keep the engine healthy. If you have no idea about how to maintain the engine, here are some easy tips to increase the longevity of your car's powertrain.
If an engine is the heart of a car, oil is the lifeblood of the engine. Many car users are unaware of which quality of the oil is poured into the engine, not realizing that using the wrong oil might affect the engine's health in the future. Thus, a user should ensure that the car's engine is using the good quality oil recommended by the manufacturer. In addition, check the levels of engine oil and top up if it is getting low. Change engine oil religiously as the fresh oil has better lubricating properties which help the engine to run smoother and for longer.
The cooling system of the engine helps the vehicle to maintain its ideal temperature and takes out the excess heat. Ensure that your vehicle has an adequate level of coolant. This can be checked by lifting the hood and looking at the coolant tank. Remember overheating might damage your engine and make a hole in your pocket so it's better to check the engine temperature, especially on hot days. In case it is overheating, don't use the car unless it cools down.

Just like us humans, a car's engine needs oxygen too. A constant airflow is a must to keep the engine moving well. However, the air filter accumulates road debris, junk particles or dirt over time which eventually blocks the filter. Due to the constricted airflow, the fuel might not burn completely which in turn increases emissions and reduces mileage. Therefore, an individual should check the air filter at regular intervals. In case you spot any dirt or debris stuck, get it cleaned or changed. This will enable your engine to breathe properly and will function efficiently.
There are many cars that can be spotted in a parking lot with engine oil leakage. Check if your car has the same condition. At times, the engine may fail due to excessive heat and pressure which results in oil leakage. To avoid that, you should check under the hood and smell if something is leaking. If the fuel leaks, you should immediately visit the nearest authorized workshop to get the problem fixed.

Rubber belts play an important role to keep everything in check when the engine is under use. In case you hear a sequel sound from the engine while driving, check under the hood and see if the belts and pulleys are in good health. In addition, check for any cracks or serious signs of wear and tear; replace them if required. In case you do not do so, torn belts might cause severe issues to different engine components.
The warning light on the instrument cluster is a subtle scream for help. Never avoid that! These warning lights are how your vehicle communicates with the driver when something goes wrong. If the engine icon indicates any problem for the engine, be it temperature or battery, pay attention to it and take the relevant action on time before it is too late.
