BMW is slated to introduce the new X5 facelift in India on July 14. The new SUV will be offered in two variants, the X5 40i and X5 30d. Now, BMW dealers have now started accepting bookings at a token amount of Rs 50,000.
The new BMW X5 facelift sees the SUV getting an exterior revamp to freshen it up. It gets new slimmer headlights with updated LED DRLs and a wider central air intake while the all-new bumper incorporates simpler side air intakes. The new illuminated kidney grille will be available only on the X5 40i variant though. Moving to the side, there are no changes except for 21-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, it gets new LED taillights and a slightly tweaked bumper.
Inside, the facelifted X5 gets BMW’s new twin curved displays that we have seen on other new BMWs recently. It houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system, both running on BMW’s latest iDrive 8.0. The new screens mean the dashboard has been updated as well, with reduced physical controls. BMW has also replaced the gear level with a toggle-switch selector.
The X5 facelift will be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains in India. This includes a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol motor making 381 bhp with 520 Nm of peak torque while the 3.0-litre turbo diesel unit pumps out 286 bhp with 650 Nm of max torque. The facelifted SUV gets BMW’s new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as well. Both models also feature mild-hybrid tech with a 48V battery and an electric motor mounted to the gearbox, providing an additional boost of 12 bhp and 200 Nm.
The outgoing X5 is priced between Rs 98.50 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 99.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the facelifted model to be priced above the Rs 1 crore mark. In India, the X5 rivals the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Land Rover Discovery, and Audi Q7.
