The competition will get fiercer in the sub-4-metre SUV segment as multiple new product launches are lined up for the coming months. One of them is the Skoda Kylaq, which will be available in four trims – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige – with prices starting from ₹7.89 lakh. It’s important to note that this is the introductory price, and the complete price list will be revealed with its official launch in the coming weeks.
Skoda has confirmed that official bookings for the Kylaq will begin on 2nd December 2024. However, select Skoda dealers have already started accepting pre-orders for the SUV. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from 27th January 2025 onwards. Before this, the SUV will make its first public appearance at the second edition of the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. The Kylaq will be the smallest SUV from the Czech automaker in India and the third offering under its India 2.0 program.
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq shares most of its design elements, interior features, and powertrain with the Kushaq. Compared to its midsize SUV sibling, the Kylaq has an 85mm shorter wheelbase and is 230mm shorter in length, measuring 2,566mm and 3,995mm, respectively. Its overall width and height stand at 1,783mm and 1,619mm, respectively. This subcompact SUV boasts a ground clearance of 189mm and a boot capacity of 446 litres (360 litres with the parcel tray).
The new Skoda compact SUV features the brand’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, with elements such as LED projector headlamps in a split setup, Skoda’s signature grille (slimmer than the Kushaq), and LED DRLs at the front. The higher trims come equipped with 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear profile is highlighted by wraparound LED taillamps connected via a black strip featuring the ‘Skoda’ moniker.
The interior sports a dual-tone black and grey theme, offering features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, a wireless phone charger, a two-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, 6-way powered front seats with ventilation, a single-pane sunroof, and more. On the safety front, the new Skoda Kylaq comes equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat mounts, and an electronic differential lock as standard.
The new Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a single 1.0L turbo petrol engine borrowed from the Kushaq. This engine, paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, delivers a claimed power output of 115PS and 178Nm of torque. Skoda claims that the Kylaq can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 10.5 seconds. Its mileage figures are yet to be revealed.
