India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
The first images of the production-ready Tata Sierra SUV have been leaked on the web, and what’s interesting here is that the model appears true to its concept. The SUV carries a tall stance with large and curvy rear windows and a large rear glass area. The all-black C and D pillars maintain the original Sierra’s identity. Design elements such as uniquely designed alloy wheels, black roof rails, and squarish, pronounced wheel arches with black cladding enhance its sporty appearance. You can also notice an ‘EV’ badge on the front door.
We saw the Sierra in its concept form at the 2023 Auto Expo. The SUV’s concept had a more upright and flatter bonnet, which seems to be retained in the production model. Some of its other design highlights include a sporty front bumper, a new faux grille, LED headlamps connected via a chrome strip, a skid plate, bold shoulder creases, and full-width LED taillamps. Similar to its concept, the production-ready Tata Sierra is likely to measure 4,150mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,675mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450mm.
The Sierra will be designed on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform, which also underpins the Punch.ev and Curvv.ev. The carmaker had revealed that the EVs based on this architecture will be able to offer a range of up to 600km and support 11kW AC charging and DC fast charging of up to 150kW. The Acti.ev platform will also be compatible with all three drivetrain systems – FWD (front-wheel drive), RWD (rear-wheel drive), and AWD (all-wheel drive), along with Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). In fact, Tata has said that the Acti.ev architecture is ready for Level 2+ features as well. It can spawn models with sufficient ground clearance and ramp-over angles suited to Indian driving conditions.
The ICE-powered Sierra will be based on the new ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Lifestyle Architecture) platform, which is also used in the Curvv. As the ATLAS architecture is compatible with 4X4 capabilities, there is a possibility that the Sierra ICE might come with a 4X4 system.
The Tata Sierra will initially be offered with an electric powertrain setup. Specifications are still under wraps, though the Sierra EV is likely to come with both single and dual motor configurations and an AWD system. Its range is expected to be around 500km on a single charge. The SUV will also be offered with an ICE (internal combustion engine) powertrain a little later. Its petrol version will use Tata’s new 1.5L Hyperion turbo engine that also powers the Curvv, while its diesel version will be powered by a 2.0L motor.
The Tata Sierra EV launch has been confirmed for the second half of 2025, while its ICE version will go on sale later.
