2024 Jeep Meridian Variant Explained - Which One to Buy?

The 2024 Jeep Meridian has arrived in some exciting new base-spec variants. First of all, the biggest update of them all is that it has, at last, arrived in a 5-seater configuration that was so sorely missing from the lineup, so it does come in five and seven-seat configurations. Secondly, it has advanced driver assistance systems supporting safety. The good thing is that prices have been sliced better in comparison with the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq. And so, with this update, there are four variants: Longitude, Longitude Plus, Limited (O), and Overland. We will break down what each variant offers and guide you to determine which one may be for you. Pros and Cons of the Jeep Meridian Pros There's the aggressive pricing after the 2024 updates Five- and seven-seater options Level 2 ADAS system, ensuring premium safety for all passengers aboard Premium features, mostly on the higher variants Cons It does not offer a variant for petrol engines The base models would not be fully loaded with that of the top trims The manual transmission does not have much choice as far as the higher variants are concerned Price Range The 2024 Jeep Meridian cost you anywhere between Rs. 24.99 lakh to Rs. 38.49 lakh, ex-showroom, pan-India, and it is sure to offer you one of the best in the mid-size SUV segment. Here's a quick breakdown of all the models and their corresponding prices: Variant Price Range (ex-showroom) Longitude Rs 24.99 lakh - Rs 28.49 lakh Longitude Plus Rs 27.50 lakh - Rs 30.49 lakh Limited (O) Rs 30.49 lakh - Rs 34.49 lakh Overland Rs 36.49 lakh – Rs 38.49 lakh Powertrain and Performance Under the hood lies a 2-litre diesel engine churning out 167.67 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The variant and transmission will differ, with two options: a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. Most variants of the Jeep Meridian come with one front-wheel drive option, but if you want to go deeper into the wilderness, then a more technical variant is completed with all-wheel drive (AWD). Jeep Meridian Longitude Base Model  The most affordable variant is the Jeep Meridian Longitude, and it is priced between Rs. 24.99 lakh and Rs. 28.49 lakh ex-showroom. There's no change in the 2-litre diesel motor, but it can come mated with either a 6-speed manual (MT) or a 9-speed automatic transmission (AT). That FWD train comes in quite handy here. Here are the features of the Longitude Variant: Exterior Interior Safety Auto-LED projector-based headlights 5-seater layout Six airbags LED DRLs Rear centre armrest with cupholders Hill start assist LED tail lights Front centre sliding armrest Reverse parking sensors Rear fog lamps Height-adjustable driver’s seat Rear wiper Roof rails Black and grey cabin theme Rear defogger Body-coloured outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) Fabric seat upholstery Rain-sensing wipers ORVM-mounted turn indicators Soft touch materials on the dashboard and door pads Reverse parking camera 18-inch alloy wheels Dual-zone AC with rear vents Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) Body-coloured  7-inch digital driver’s display Electronic roll mitigation Shark fin antenna 2nd-row 60:40 split seats ISOFIX child seat mounts Rear roof-mounted spoiler 2nd-row reclining seats Electronic stability control (ESC)   Day-night inside rearview mirror (IRVM) Traction control system (TCS)   Electrically adjustable ORVMs with auto-fold function Electronic parking brake   Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support     One-touch up/down front power windows     Cruise control (AT variants only)     One-touch-down rear power windows     10.1-inch touchscreen     Front and rear USB ports     12 V power outlet at the front     6-speaker audio system   Jeep Meridian Longitude Plus  Longitude Plus is the next in line. This variant comes with a price range between Rs. 27.5 lakh to Rs. 30.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It pulls in the same 2-litre diesel but comes with both transmission options besides front-wheel drive to keep it steadily on course. Here are the features of Longitude Plus over Longitude: Exterior Interior Front LED fog lamps with cornering function 7 seater Dual-tone roof Panoramic sunroof Black ORVMs Wireless phone charger   Auto-dimming IRVM   Reclining and fully foldable third-row seats   Leatherette-wrapped steering wheel Jeep Meridian Limited (O) Now, the Limited (O) version has also come out, and this costs between Rs 30.49 lakh and Rs 34.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The same 2-litre diesel engine does duties here once again and with both options of 6-speed MT and 9-speed AT, it delivers silky smooth and super responsive performance from day one and still offers front-wheel drive for use in everyday driving around town. Here are the features of Limited (O) over Longitude Plus: Interior Safety Beige leatherette seats 360-degree camera Door scuff plates   Connected car tech   10.2-inch digital driver’s display   8-way powered driver’s seat with memory function   8-way powered passenger seat   9-speaker Alpine audio system   Powered tailgate   Ventilated front seats   Jeep Meridian Overland  Then there's Overland. This starts at Rs. 36.49 lakh and goes as high as Rs. 38.49 lakh. The same 2-litre diesel is at play, and just like with every other variant, only the 9-speed automatic makes an appearance. FWD and AWD configurations make for a great choice for anyone looking for premium features with better off-road capabilities. Here are the features of Overland over Limited (O): Exterior Interior Safety 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels Tupelo-coloured  leatherette seats Hill descent control Body-coloured lower bumper and fender extensions Overland badging on front seats Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) 7-slot grille with chrome inserts Leatherette material on the dashboard and doors     Terrain modes   Which One to Buy? If you are a budget-conscious traveler or you're that adventurous type who would not think twice about paying for something, so long as its features can still deliver what you want in a gadget, then the Longitude Plus can find some balance between price and great features. But if you like a bout of luxury experience with all the features of quality that go into the package, you should get the Overland variant. While it may seem to cost a pretty penny, it boasts all of the advanced technologies as well as safety features that make it truly worthwhile, especially for the higher price tag if you are getting it in 4-wheel drive, ideal for off-roading. Are Jeep Cars Reliable For Off-roading?

Are Jeep Cars Reliable For Off-roading?

In off-road car use, Jeep has been proven to be among the most trusted carmakers in the world. It is not based on merely creating hype but on engineering and design for over four decades of fulfilling an adventurous spirit. In the context of India, where such roads include mountain trails or river belts where wheels may tend to slip in the muddy water, it becomes imperative to know the extent of reliability of Jeep Cars in offering such off-road experience. Jeep History And Heritage Jeep brand can be dated back to World War 2 when the first Jeep was manufactured as a military utility vehicle and was renounced for its endurance of rough terrains. Their principle of creating a hard and long-lasting vehicle is still intact. For example, the Jeep Wrangler is a model that has direct reference to the original military vehicle and it remains popular in the category of cars intended for usage in off-road. Elements That Increase The Possibility Of Operation On Rough Roads 1. The 4x4 Systems: This is true because Jeep vehicles have some of the most elaborate four-wheel-drive (4x4) systems which make them very reliable off-road vehicles. Jeep also provides different types of 4x4 technologies and among them are the Command-Trac and the Rock-Trac. These systems send power to all four wheels, hence, giving the car a better grip on the irregular surfaces. This is signified by the fact that under any condition, whether the terrain is rough or muddy, Jeep vehicles can be able to gain more control and stability. 2. Ground Clearance: Off-road purposes require high ground clearance because it helps to avoid the underbelly of the car scraping against the ground when driving over rocks and logs. Jeep has used higher ground clearance in their products including the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, enabling them to go through rough terrains without getting stuck 3. Durability: The material used in the construction of Jeeps is difficult to produce and is used for withstanding some of the extreme environmental conditions. This can be attributed to the well-constructed structures of the chassis and bodywork to provide the ability to stand extreme handling. Also, many Jeep models can be equipped with underbody skid plates to safeguard those critical components from abuse during trail driving.  4. Approach and Departure Angles: Turning angles and approach and departure angles mean the angle through which it is possible to approach an obstacle without damaging the car’s bumpers or undercarriage and the angle through which it is possible to leave it. Jeep vehicles are designed to have high approach and departure angles so that they can easily get over the obstacles and down again. 5. Locking Differentials: Another feature that Jeep vehicles benefit from is locking differentials which greatly improves off-road capability. This enables the wheels of one axle to rotate in harmony which is for instance important when traction is required in slippery or uneven terrain. Some of the Jeep models like the Wrangler Rubicon come with advanced technology. Performance in Indian Terrain India offers diverse topography, which is difficult terrain for any of the off-road vehicles to manoeuvre around. These terrains range from the hills of Himachal Pradesh to deserts of Rajasthan which makes Jeep cars ideal in these circumstances. For instance, the Jeep Compass is highly regarded as a compact SUV but its off-road capabilities are quite reasonable and many who have an interest in commuting within the cities and at times take their cars off the tarmac usually consider it. The other vehicle that comes with a good reputation is the Wrangler which is noted for its excellent off-road capability. Its features include a high ground clearance (223 to 237 mm), making it possible for the vehicle to compete for the toughest trails especially when fitted with 4x4 capabilities. The Grand Cherokee boasts an improved air suspension system and can also manoeuvre around harder terrains and it is also comfortable to ride through rough terrains. Real-World Reliability Jeep vehicles in real-life situations have been noted to be very strong and reliable. There are many customers, off-road enthusiasts and adventure travellers in India who have positive feedback about Jeep vehicles and state that Jeep vehicles can operate well when they are used in off-road conditions. But, again as with any vehicle, the trick is to maintain it properly to get years out of it. Challenges and Considerations Overall, Jeep vehicles are a good choice for off-roading but there are some things one has to put in mind. Some Jeep cars are priced higher than standard cars, especially if the buyer chooses additional systems or sports cars. Another factor is fuel economy. Off-road driving may result in increased fuel consumption. Conclusion All in all, Jeep Cars have been testified to be effective for off-road usage equally in other parts of the world as well as in India. Their 4x4 systems, elevated ground-clearance levels, rigid build and other features make them very suitable to manoeuvre in different terrains. However, potential clients should always consider the benefits attached to these vehicles with other factors such as maintenance costs and the efficiency of the fuel among others. If you are an enthusiast of off-road and willing to go for the brand that will guarantee toughness, then you will never regret when you purchase a Jeep. Next-Gen Jeep Renegade Launch Details Out - New Platform

We informed you earlier that Stellantis is working on the next-gen Jeep Renegade and the Compass SUV in the Indian market. The big update is that the next Jeep Compass won't be introduced in our market. Instead, the company will use the existing platform to give a makeover to the current model. On the flip side, the next Jeep Renegade could be a great contender in the fast growing compact SUV segment of India.  In fact, previous media reports reveal that the next-gen Jeep Renegade could be launched in the Indian market. In the global markets, the new Renegade will be positioned between the Avenger and Compass. The outgoing model is just 15 cm longer than the Avenger. The next Compass and Avenger will grow in size to create more space inside the cabin.  In some markets, the next-gen Jeep Renegade will be offered as a pure-electric SUV. The new Renegade EV is scheduled to be launched by 2027; a possible debut in 2026 can't be ignored. Jeep could also introduce the ICE or hybrid version of the SUV in select markets; however, nothing has been revealed on the same.  Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa has not ruled out the gas-powered and hybrid powertrains for the Renegade. But, it has confirmed an electric version will be introduced. The next-gen Renegade will be priced under $25,000 (approximately 21 lakh). Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said that the company will need to produce lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries to achieve  $25,000 price point in the United States.  The outgoing Renegade is developed on the Small Wide 4x4 platform, which first debuted in 2025 with the Punto. This platform received multiple updates before reaching the current form to adopt the Renegade and the Compass. The next-gen Jeep Renegade won't use this architecture. In fact, the SUV will be based on the new STLA-Small architecture, which will debut in 2026.  It was speculated that Jeep will use the e-CMP or CMP platform to produce the next-gen Renegade. However, Jeep India is considering this platform to develop an all-new compact SUV. This new entry-level midsize SUV will cost under Rs 20 lakh and will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Curvv and others. The CMP platform currently underpins front-wheel-drive cars; however, the Jeep's SUV will retain the Jeep DNA. It is likely to come with AWD or 4x4 drivetrain, which will make it a unique offering in the market. The next-gen Jeep Renegade is rumoured to feature a more sophisticated EP5DT 1.6-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that offers multiple power outputs ranging between 150hp and 180hp. There is a possibility, the SUV could receive a higher-spec 180hp version of the engine. Also See - Mahindra XUV700 Coupe, BE 05 To Carry Aggressive Price Tag Source
