Mahindra Thar 5-door has been spotted testing several times on roads, revealing its design and interior details. Recently, a test mule has spied again in full camouflage, suggesting that the upcoming 5-door Thar might get ADAS and more safety features. However, this should come with no surprise because Mahindra's first sub-4m SUV, XUV 3XO is also going to get ADAS, so receiving enhanced safety in the Thar 5-door becomes essential.
Based on the spy images, the interior of the Thar 5-door highlights a rectangular housing behind the IRVM. This seems like an ADAS camera setup. Reports suggest that the new Thar might get similar ADAS features as the XUV 700. Some of the possible features could include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Smart Pilot Assist, Driver Drowsiness Detection, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Mahindra Thar 5-door will also come with updated safety features such as six airbags, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and all-disc brakes.
The upcoming 5-door Thar will come equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a rear centre armrest, a sunroof, dual-zone AC, and others.
Mahindra will use the same set of engine options as its 3-door counterpart. These include a 2.0-litre petrol (150 bhp and 300 Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel unit (129 bhp and 300 Nm). Both engines will be paired with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. It will also have a choice of rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive options.
Mahindra Thar 5-door will be launched in the last quarter of 2024. The price of the vehicle might start from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha 5-door.
