Maruti Suzuki is the largest automaker in India. Founded in 1981 as a joint venture between the Government of India and Japanese automaker Suzuki, the company’s launched its first product, the 800 in 1983. The Maruti Suzuki 800 ended up being the highest-selling vehicle in India for 21 years in a row. Here is a story explaining everything about Maruti Suzuki Cars in India.
Maruti Suzuki currently sells 16 vehicles in the country through its vast dealership network. The most affordable product in the line-up is the Alto 800 which is priced at Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom), while the recently launched, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is the most expensive with prices ranging up to Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Other notable models include, the Alto K10 (Rs 3.99 lakh), S-Presso (Rs 4.25 lakh), Wagon R (Rs 5.47 lakh) and the Brezza (Rs 7.99 lakh). Do note that all prices are ex-showroom.
The 16 models in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio are split between hatchbacks, MPVs, sedans and SUVs/Crossovers. The hatchback line comprises of cars like the Alto, Celerio, WagonR, Swift and the Baleno. The two sedans in the company include the Dzire and the Ciaz. The Eeco, Ertiga and the XL6 compete in the MPV space while the Brezza and the all-new Grand Vitara make-up the SUV segment challengers.
Maruti Suzuki car interiors have come a long way since the days of the original 800. All models get AC as standard which was once an expensive option. Most models in the line-up feature all 4 power windows and part digital instrument cluster as standard. Recent models like the Brezza, Baleno and the Grand Vitara feature equipment like 360-degree parking camera, HUD, 6 airbags and more.
Every Maruti Suzuki car comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and PTFL as standard. Models like the Grand Vitara, Baleno and Brezza feature 6 airbags in the top variants.

For the future, Maruti is planning to shake things up a little. Moving away from pure ICE models, we expect the company to introduce more hybrid and fully electric vehicles including the launch of products like the Baleno Cross, Project YY8 and more. The company is planning to launch its first EV in 2025, with localization coming in when demand picks up.
