Honda Cars India reintroduced the strong hybrid version of the City Facelift, named e:HEV on March 2nd 2023. The sedan is offered in two variants; V and ZX. Powered by a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle hybrid petrol engine, it delivers 121 bhp of power output and 253 Nm of peak torque. Honda claims an ARAI Certified fuel efficiency figure of 26.6 kmpl for the sedan. As far as the cost is concerned, the Honda City e:HEV starting price stands at Rs 18.89 lakh (ex-showroom) which can go up to Rs 20.39 (ex-showroom) for the top-spec trim.
The Next-Gen Hyundai Verna is soon to be launched on the 21st of March 2023. Customers will get this sedan in four variants; EX, S, SX, and SX (O) and two engine options. It includes a newly added 1.5-litre turbo petrol (160 bhp and 253 Nm) and the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (115 bhp and 145 Nm) as the outgoing model. The mileage of the current Hyundai Verna lies between 17.7 to 25 kmpl for both petrol and diesel options. For the upcoming All-New Hyundai Verna, expect a higher efficiency figure than the outgoing version for both petrol options. The starting price of the current model starts at Rs 9.63 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.71 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the new model with a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh in India.
Another sedan with the best mileage belongs to the Czech automaker, Skoda. The Slavia which was launched last year by the brand comes in three variants; Active, Ambition, and Style. It is powered by two petrol engine options; a 1.0-litre Turbo petrol (113 bhp and 178 Nm) and a 1.5-litre Turbo petrol (148 bhp and 250 Nm). It offers the best ARAI Certified mileage of 18.7 to 19.47 kmpl for both powertrain options. Slavia is priced at Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the lower trim while the top of the line variant costs Rs 18.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Volkswagen Virtus has the same powertrain options as Slavia and so is the mileage. Its 1.5-litre Turbo petrol engine is capable of delivering a power of 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The best mileage of the engine stands at 19.47 kmpl. The car comes in four variants; Comfortline, Highline, Topline, and GT Plus. Talking about its price, the entry level trim retails at Rs 11.32 lakh (ex-showroom) while its highest variant is priced at Rs 18.42 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is one of the cheaper sedans with a higher fuel efficiency figure. Featuring a 1.2-litre dualJet petrol engine (89 bhp and 113 Nm), the car offers the highest mileage of 23.26 kmpl with the manual transmission and 24.12 kmpl with the automatic gearbox. Besides, the Dzire comes in four variants; LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus. The price of the lowest trim starts from Rs 6.44 lakh (ex-showroom) while its ZXi Plus AT is priced at Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom).
Another affordable sedan with decent mileage comes from Honda Cars India. Honda Amaze, which is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine (89 bhp and 110 Nm) offers an ARAI certified mileage of 18.60 to 24.70 kmpl in the manual and automatic transmission. Besides, the car is available in three variants named E, S, and VX. The price of its base trim begins at Rs 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom) while its top-end variant comes with a price tag of Rs 9.48 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki recently updated its Ciaz model by adding more safety features and dual-tone colours. The car provides a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mid-hybrid tech which can generate a power output of 103 bhp and 138 Nm of torque while offering the highest mileage of 20.6 kmpl. Available in four variants; Sigma, Delta, Alpha, and Zeta, the automaker has priced its New Ciaz at Rs 11.14 lakh (ex-showroom) for manual variants while for the automatic trim, the car costs Rs 12.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
Out of these aforementioned sedan cars, the Honda City e:HEV offers the best mileage of 26.6 kmpl. In terms of cost, Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the cheapest sedan as it is priced between Rs 6.44 lakh to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom) while the most expensive one among these is the Honda City Hybrid eHEV, ranging from Rs 18.89 lakh to Rs 20.39 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides this, when you are about to finalize your next purchase in the form of a new fuel saving vehicle; then these are the ideal models to choose from.
