India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
India’s most-selling multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has a couple of positives going along its way. Since its launch in 2012, the seven-seater has continued to impress with its superb fuel efficiency and comfort. And as it's a Maruti product, acquiring and servicing costs also run easy on the pocket.
At nearly 4.4 metres (14.4 feet), Ertiga packs a decently spacious interior. Maruti has given the Eritga a 2+3+2 seating configuration. The second row being a bench-type seat can house the most number of passengers and is the place to be for long rides.
To access the third row, the bench folds (in 60:40) and slides. At best, children under 14 years would be comfortable in the last row, especially for trips over 300 kilometres. Ertiga petrol has a boot space of 209 litres and you can expect a drop of 80-100 litres with the CNG kit installed.
Now in its second generation, the MPV looks handsome with blacked-out headlights that have projector halogens and chrome splattered around the grille. This chrome treatment is carried forward from door handles to a strip at the back bridging the two LED taillights. Alloys holding the 15-inch rubbers get a dual-tone machined finish.
Ertiga’s dashboard gets a metallic teakwood treatment with a 7-inch infotainment system in the middle which is voice-enabled. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Arkamys surround sound and steering-mounted controls are also offered besides ABS, EBD, hill hold and quad-airbags for the front passengers. In the petrol models, idle-stop start, torque assist and brake energy regeneration were added in the facelift.

In its initial years, the Ertiga came with a diesel block with an ARAI mileage of 24.2 kmpl but it had to be discontinued due to stricter BS-6 emission norms. This led to the sole existence of the 1.5-litre petrol engine with hybrid tech and a CNG combination in VXi(O) and ZXi(O) trims. Notably, hybrid and CNG cannot be bought together in any of the nine trims.

The petrol hybrid manual and automatic transmissions return a mileage of over 20 kmpl, while the CNG Ertiga boasts a towering 26.11 km per kg figure. A full tank of petrol (45 litres) would go for up to 950 kilometres, realistically.
With a maximum capacity of 9 kilograms of CNG, you can expect a range of over 200 km. At the time of writing (May 13), petrol costs Rs. 94.76/ litre and CNG Rs. 74.09 in Delhi.
