If you are in the market for a premium luxury car with performance and driving pleasure as priority, then BMW Cars are the best choice for you. Renowned for producing cars that offer heritage, some of the best handling characteristics and performance, the automaker lives up to its tagline - the Ultimate Driving Machine. It doesn’t matter which model you are buying, more often than not it will be the best to drive in its segment. When coupled with copious amounts of power, driving a BMW becomes a special experience. Today we take a look at the most powerful BMW cars you can currently buy in India.
Only the second-ever bespoke M vehicle and the first M PHEV, the new XM is the most powerful BMW to be ever made. It becomes the new flagship model in the brand’s lineup in India, the SUV features some striking design elements like large illuminated kidney grille with gold accents, split-LED headlight setup, bulging wheel arches, LED tail lights, and 21-inch alloy wheels that can be upgraded to 22 or 23-inches.
Powering the XM is a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor, churning out a combined 653 bhp with 800 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system. The automaker claims a 0 to 100 kmph sprint time of just 4.3 seconds while the SUV can also be driven in pure EV mode for up to 80 kms.
The automaker introduced the M8 Competition 50 Jahre M Edition as part of the 50th-Anniversary celebrations of BMW’s performance division. Compared to the regular competition model, the Special Edition gets added M badges in the front, side, and rear, a black kidney grille, an M Sport exhaust system, and 20-inch anthracite black alloy wheels with red brake calipers. There are also 5 new exterior colours and an optional M Carbon exterior package which gets you the likes of a carbon front bumper and rear spoiler.
Being the most powerful 8-Series, the M8 Competition uses a twin-turbo V8 petrol motor that makes 625 bhp with 750 Nm of peak torque and is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes with BMW’s xDrive AWD system, allowing the vehicle to reach 100 kmph from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds.
The BMW M5 is widely regarded as the best super saloon in the world, and the current model is also among the most powerful BMWs you can currently buy. The company gave the sedan an update in 2021, featuring an updated front end with a revised bumper and new Laserlight LED headlamps while the rear offers a new diffuser and apron.
Mechanically, the M5 uses a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that makes 625 bhp with 750 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. BMW’s xDrive system sends power to all four wheels while 0 to 100 kmph can be achieved in just 3.3 seconds.

When it was launched last year, the M4 Competition quickly became one of the most divisive cars the German automaker has ever made. Most of it was due to the new design language and the massive front grille. The rest of the car looks aggressive too with the sculpted front bonnet and bumper, black 20-inch alloy wheels, sloping coupe roofline, and an angular rear bumper with a multi-channel diffuser.
Being an M car, the M4 Competition has the power to match its striking looks. Under the hood is a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six petrol powertrain that makes 510 bhp with 650 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This is also the first time that the M4 is being offered with an AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system. BMW claims a 0 to 100 kmph time of just 3.5 seconds while the top speed is said to be limited to 250 kmph.
The X5 M, previous to the new XM’s launch, was the most powerful BMW SUV you could buy. Unlike other M models with their aggressive and in-your-face design, the X5 M looks quite down to earth. The key highlights to its design are the double M kidney grilles finished in black, a sportier front bumper, aerodynamic ORVMs, a new rear bumper and a roof-mounted spoiler.
While you may not notice the X5 M at the first glance, you sure will when it gets going. Powering the SUV is BMW’s 4.4-litre twin–turbo V8 petrol engine that is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 625 bhp with 750 Nm of peak torque. The motor comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via the M xDrive system. Weighing nearly 2.4-tonne, the vehicle can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.
