ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems deals with enhanced driver safety with inputs from radars or cameras. In India, however, Level 3 ADAS is the highest level of autonomous driving available. Some of the common features in the ADAS suite include blind spot monitoring, collision warning, adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW) and lane keeping assist (LKA).
Japanese Carmaker Toyota offers the ADAS suite in two of its cars - the Innova Hycross and the Vellfire. While the Innova Hycross gets the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. the Vellfire also comes equipped with the ADAS suite. Here are the technical specifications of the two cars:

.In light of the above data, let us now discuss the features of Toyota’s ADAS suite in depth.
Coming at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs. 19.77 lakh, the Toyota Innova Hycross is the car manufacturer’s most affordable four-wheeler with ADAS on board. It comes with a 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol engine churning out 183.73 bhp and 188 Newton metres of torque. The combined fuel efficiency figure stands at 23.24 kilometres per litre. Its ADAS kit includes:
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) - The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 includes automatic emergency braking which works with radar and cameras to detect pedestrians, vehicles and obstacles. Upon detection, the system automatically applies brakes to avoid collision. This adds an additional layer of protection and assists drivers in difficult situations.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - With the use of cameras (360-degree) around the exterior of the MUV, the system is capable of slowing down the vehicle whenever there is a need and accelerating to reach the speed limit set by the driver. This results in stress-free drives and when braking happens, the batteries get charged which in turn results in higher mileage.
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) - Another advanced technology in the safety pack, the lane keeping assist system provides steering inputs to help maintain the lane with the markings on the road. If the car drifts out of the lane unintentionally, the steering self-corrects to keep it in the existing lane and prevents collision in case there is a vehicle making an overtaking manoeuvre.

The Toyota Vellfire is a seven-seater MUV which comes in the ex-showroom price bracket of Rs. 1.20 crore to Rs. 1.30 crore. It comes with a 2.5-litre hybrid petrol engine that makes 140.1 bhp and 240 Nm. Fuel efficiency is 19 kilometres per litre which is pretty impressive, especially at this price point. The ADAS suite of the Vellfire has these features:
Automatic High Beam Assist - This is a crucial feature as part of the ADAS system of the Vellfire. It not only optimises the brightness of the road ahead but also reduces the driver’s constant input to adjust the same. It also takes into consideration other vehicles’ lights and when no traffic is detected, it illuminates the road ahead accordingly. To ease the intensity of the LEDs on the other drivers, it adjusts the brightness for easy visibility and reduces the glare effect.
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) - The simple function of the blind spot monitoring feature is to notify the driver if somebody is overtaking and may not be in the periphery of the outer rear view mirrors (ORVMs). If an automobile is detected by the sensors, the system automatically provides visual and audible alerts to the driver. This helps the driver to make informed decisions on the road.
