After the successful introduction of the Hyryder-Grand Vitara, Innova Hycross-Invicto & Fronx-Taisor twins, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV are planning to introduce more models in the Indian market. Both brands will introduce multiple new 3-row models including SUVs and MPV in the country in the next 2 years.
Maruti Suzuki is preparing a new 3-row SUV, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2025. The new SUV will be based on the Global-C platform that underpins the Grand Vitara. The platform will be tweaked to accommodate a longer wheelbase SUV. The new model will be offered in 6 and 7-seat layout with the former having captain seats in the second-row. The SUV will be significantly longer than the existing Grand Vitara, which measures 4.3 meters in length. The SUV is expected to feature the existing 1.5-litre petrol and Toyota's 1.5-litre petrol engine with a strong hybrid tech.
Similar to the Grand Vitara 7-seater, Toyota will also launch the 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in 2025. The new 3-row SUV will share most of the interiors and features with the Grand Vitara & Hyryder. The SUV will be positioned between the Hyryder and the Innova Hycross, in terms of pricing. It will rival the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and others in the segment. The SUV could be equipped with high-end features including ADAS tech. It is likely to be powered by the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L petrol-hybrid powertrains.
Toyota is working on the next-gen Fortuner SUV, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2025. The new model will be based on the TNGA-F architecture, which also underpins the new Tacoma pickup truck, Land Cruiser 400 and the Lexus LX500d. The SUV will come with a more aggressive styling and a feature-loaded interior. The next-gen Fortuner will come with a mild-hybrid diesel engine, which consists of a 2.8-litre diesel engine, a 48V setup, and an electric motor generator. The powertrain produces 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. It will be available with both RWD & 4X4 drivetrain configurations.
The Indo-Japanese automaker is aiming to enter the mini MPV segment, which is expected to draw inspiration from the Suzuki Spacia model on sale in Japan. This compact 7-seater MPV will sit below 4 meters in length. It is expected to feature sliding doors on both sides of the rear seat. The new MPV is expected to be equipped with the brand's new Z-Series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that debuted in the new Swift. Both manual and AMT gearbox options are likely to be on offer.
