Hyundai Bayon-based SUV coming in 2026, to rival Maruti Fronx

Hyundai is planning to expand its SUV lineup in India with an all-new compact SUV (codenamed: Bc4i) set to launch in 2026. This new SUV, expected to be based on the Hyundai Bayon crossover sold overseas, will take on the Maruti Fronx, which has become a strong player in the compact SUV market.

What do we know so far?

The upcoming Hyundai compact SUV is likely to be under four metres long, similar to the Maruti Fronx, which means it will benefit from tax advantages in India for sub-compact cars. Hyundai has found success with models like the Venue and this new SUV will likely fit between the Venue and the larger Creta. It is expected to share many features and engine options with the Venue, which makes it familiar yet fresh for customers. Take it as a different-looking alternative to the Venue.

Why it matters in India’s SUV market

Compact SUVs have gained massive popularity in India due to their ideal size, fuel efficiency and stylish looks. Hyundai’s new compact SUV will add to the brand’s already successful range, offering Indian buyers more options in the competitive segment. By using the i20 platform, Hyundai can ensure cost-effective production while providing a premium experience with features that appeal to Indian customers.

Competition check

The new Hyundai offering will face stiff competition from Maruti Fronx, Tata Nexon and other popular SUVs. Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx has been a hit in the market, thanks to its stylish design and affordable price. Hyundai’s new model will aim to challenge the Fronx by offering more features and a spacious cabin.

Expected price

Hyundai is expected to price this new compact SUV in the Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh range. This pricing will attract buyers looking for a value-for-money SUV that combines style, technology and comfort. Production will likely take place at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant, ensuring timely delivery and competitive pricing. Stay tuned for more details.
