Mitsubishi DST SUV Concept Revealed

Mitsubishi Motors has previewed its all-new DST seven-seat SUV concept at the Philippine International Motor Show 2024. Designed to cater to families seeking a spacious, comfortable three-row SUV, the DST builds on a monocoque platform, offering a midsize body with a full seven-seater capacity.

Built for Adventure

Blending “Gravitas and Dynamism” in its design, this concept SUV boasts a solid, commanding road presence. Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield design combines sleek styling with rugged features. T-shaped LED lights accentuate the SUV’s broad stance, while large alloy wheels and protective skid plates reinforce its off-road capability. With an extended wheelbase, it offers ample room for third-row seating, enhancing passenger comfort.

Premium Cabin and Advanced Technology

Inside, the DST Concept is equipped with soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door panels, contributing to its luxurious feel. A panoramic sunroof brightens the cabin, creating an inviting atmosphere for all passengers. The SUV is packed with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster, borrowing features from the Mitsubishi XForce, ensuring advanced connectivity and ease of use.

Power and Performance

While specific engine details remain under wraps, the production version is likely to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a CVT unit, similar to the XForce. Five drive modes – Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud and Tarmac – allow the DST to handle various road conditions, including rough terrains and wet surfaces.

Indian Market Potential

Once a strong name in India’s SUV market with the popular Pajero, the brand now plans to bring back this iconic model by 2026. Although it exited India some time ago, its ties with the Renault-Nissan alliance keep the door open for a possible return. Both Renault and Nissan have seen success in India with models like the Kiger, Triber and Magnite

The growing demand for three-row SUVs in the country suggests potential. Its design and functionality could make it a compelling option for Indian buyers who prefer family-friendly vehicles. While Mitsubishi’s focus remains on ASEAN markets like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, the DST’s appeal might pave the way for an Indian debut, positioning it as a rival to popular models like the Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari.
