The Kia Seltos midsize SUV has received an overwhelming response from buyers since its launch in 2019. It was positioned as a premium, feature-rich SUV with a modern design to challenge competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector. Over time, the competition has grown fiercer with new entrants from Maruti Suzuki, Skoda, and Volkswagen. To keep up, the Seltos has been regularly updated to withstand new rivals and meet market demands. At least four updates have been made to the Seltos so far, and now it is ready for a generational shift.
The South Korean automaker has already started testing the new-generation Kia Seltos in India. While its official launch details are yet to be revealed, the new model is expected to arrive in 2025. Significant changes are anticipated both inside and out. Here, we will discuss two major updates expected for the new Kia Seltos.
The design of the new Seltos will be largely inspired by the Kia EV5, which is sold in select global markets. It will feature more angular creases at the front and rear ends. The headlamps will have a sharper design, with an LED element connecting both clusters. The front grille will take on a rectangular shape with vertical slats. Similarly, the rear will feature connected taillamps with angular C-shaped lights at each corner, as seen in the EV5. However, the SUV will retain its original silhouette and most of its signature design elements.
One of the biggest updates is likely to be the introduction of a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Earlier media reports suggest that Kia is evaluating a strong hybrid powertrain for India, which could debut with the new-generation Kia Seltos. The strong hybrid technology is expected to be introduced with Kia’s existing 1.2L and 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines. Speculations also hint that the new Seltos might get a 141bhp, 1.6L hybrid powertrain with an AWD setup.
At present, the Kia Seltos lineup in India is available with two engine options – a 1.5L petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel – delivering 115bhp with 144Nm and 116bhp with 250Nm, respectively. Multiple gearbox options are offered, including a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, a 6-speed automatic, and a CVT automatic. These are likely to be carried forward to the new-generation model alongside the existing powertrains.
