Top 10 Cars Sept 2024 - Nexon Not in List, Scorpio Surprises

Automakers have released their sales figures for the month of September 2024. The model wise sales numbers reveal some interesting trends. Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga MPV becomes the top-selling model beating the likes of the new Swift, Hyundai Creta, Brezza and others. The company sold 17,441 units of the Ertiga in September 2024 as against 13,528 units in the same period last year, reporting a YoY sales increase of 29 percent.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is at second position with 16,241 units sold last month as against 14,703 units, registering a YoY sales growth of 10%. The Hyundai Creta is the country's best-selling SUV, and 3rd best-selling passenger vehicle last month. The Korean brand has sold 15902 units in September 2024 as against 12,717 units in the corresponding month 2023. The SUV reported a YoY sales growth of 25 percent. 

New Maruti Swift Sales

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza slips to 4th position with 15,322 units as against 15,001 units last year in September, reporting a marginal YoY growth of 2 percent. Big news is that the Mahindra Scorpio nameplate moves to 5th position with a total sales of 14,438 units in September 2024 as against 11,846 units in the corresponding month last year. The Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N combined reported a YoY sales growth of 22 percent. This has helped Mahindra to achieve its highest ever sales number in the Indian market. 

The Baleno is at 6th position with 14,292 units sold last month, reporting a YoY sales decline of 22 percent. Its sibling is at 7th position with 13,874 units sold in September 2024 as against 11,455 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 21 percent. 

A huge setback for Tata Motors, as its best-selling SUV, the Tata Nexon, is not in the list of top 10 selling cars in India. In fact, the Tata Punch slips to 8th position. Tata Motors sold 13,711 units of the Punch last month as against 13,036 units sold in the same month last year, reporting a marginal YoY sales increase of 5 percent. 

Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Eeco are at 9th and 10th positions, respectively. MSIL sold 13,339 units of the WagonR and 11,908 units of the Eeco last month.
