The Isuzu Hi-Lander is a robust, entry-level pickup truck for buyers seeking practicality and durability. It’s well-known for its rugged design, powerful engine, and capability to handle all kinds of terrains and heavy loads. The Hi-Lander is suitable for both urban commuting and off-road driving. The pickup truck last received an update in 2021 following the implementation of the BS6 emission regulations.
At present, the Isuzu Hi-Lander is available in a single 4X2 manual variant, priced at Rs 21.20 lakh (ex-showroom). This well-equipped variant is one of the most affordable options in the lifestyle pickup truck segment. However, it lacks high-end features compared to its competition.
Isuzu has adopted a minimalist approach for its interior, yet it offers all essential features to enhance functionality. The pickup truck has a twin cockpit ergonomic cabin design with features such as 4 speakers at the dash and door, 2 power outlets (center console and upper utility box), 3 USB ports, auto down power windows (driver), 6-way manually adjustable driver seat, fabric seat upholstery, full carpet floor covering, 3D electro-luminescent instrument cluster with MID, front wraparound bucket seats, automatic climate control AC with integrated controls, and more. Its rear seat comes with a 60:40 split ratio and a better recline angle than its previous version.
The Isuzu Hi-Lander has a strong road presence, thanks to its substantial dimensions. The pickup truck measures 5295mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1785mm in height with a wheelbase of 3095mm. Its ground clearance stands at 225mm, enabling it to navigate rough patches and hilly areas. As a lifestyle pickup truck, the Hi-Lander offers an open cargo bed that can accommodate a variety of items and heavy loads, making it suitable for both commercial and regular utility purposes.
Similar to its simple yet functional interior, the safety kit includes basic yet important fitments. The list includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, traction control system, electronic stability control, hill descent control, emergency brake assist, brake override system, Isofix anchorages for child seats, three-point seatbelts for all seat occupants, pre-tensioner with load limiters for front seat belts, rear door child lock, driver and passenger seat belt warning, and engine immobilizer. The pickup truck is made of high-tensile steel with tailor-welded blanks and has steel underbody protection plates. The Hi-Lander has never been tested by Global NCAP or any other similar agency.
Under the hood, the Hi-Lander features a 1.9L, 4-cylinder diesel engine delivering a claimed power of 163bhp and 360Nm. This motor is powerful enough for hauling heavy loads and handling tough terrains. It’s a consistent performer in challenging driving conditions but not a high-speed performer. For transmission duties, the pickup truck has a 6-speed manual gearbox.
As a robust pickup truck, the Isuzu Hi-Lander offers a decent mileage of around 13-14 kmpl. However, its fuel efficiency varies with driving conditions and load amount. It has a fuel tank capacity of 55 liters.
The Isuzu Hi-Lander comes in six color schemes: Black Mica, Red Spinel Mica, Nautilus Blue, Galena Grey, Splash White, and Silver Metallic.
The Isuzu Hi-Lander doesn’t have any direct rival in the country. However, it faces competition from the Tata Yodha and Toyota Hilux. While the Yodha is a more affordable option with lower build quality, the Hilux is a premium and significantly more expensive offering.
