Lexus India has introduced the fifth-gen RX SUV in the country, with prices starting from Rs 95.80 lakh (ex-showroom). Unlike earlier models which were more expensive in India than in other markets, the new hybrid SUV has been priced more competitively. The new model was first showcased in the country at the start of the year during Auto Expo 2023.
The new RX features Lexus’ new Alluring X design language. At the front, it gets the brands trademark spindle grille flanked by slim LED headlights and DRLs while the bumper houses the sculpted air intakes.
Move to the side and you will notice the flared wheelarches, strong shoulder line, and a curved windowline. The rear end gets a steeply-raked windscreen, bootlid spoiler, and sleek full-width LED taillights. The RX500h also gets the F-Sport body kit that adds some sportier elements over the standard model.
For the fifth-gen RX’s interior, Lexus has adopted its Tazuna (Japanese for rein) concept. The automaker defines it as being “human-centric” that aims to connect the driver to the road for better concentration. The brand is offering three interior colour options - Solis White, Black, and Dark Sepia - and two trim options including medium bamboo brown or sumi wood grain.
In terms of features, the RX gets a 14-inch infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, a HUD, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto support, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and more.
Lexus will offer the RX with two powertrain options. The RX350h is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol motor paired with an electric motor, making a combined 250 bhp with 242 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
The RX500h uses a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol motor that is mated to an electric motor as well. Combined, it makes 371 bhp with 460 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The automaker stated that the new RX gets a bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery that uses less toxic metals and generates high peak power. The RX350h features a 259.2V battery, while the RX500h gets a 288V battery.
