Honda Cars India is preparing to launch some of its globally popular cars as a CBU model in the country. A new media report claims that the Honda Civic Type R hot hatch will be launched in the Indian market via a CBU route. It will be a direct rival to the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which has recently been launched in the Indian market.
The initial lot, 150 units, of the VW Golf GTI has already been sold, leading to a halt in new bookings. Seeing the success of the new VW hot hatch, Honda Cars India has decided to introduce its globally popular Civic Type R.
The Honda Civic Type-R is the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the Nurburgring. It has a lap time of 7:44:881. Powering the hot hatch is a 2.0-litre VTEC turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 325bhp at 6,500rpm and a peak torque of 420Nm between 2,500-4,000 rpm.
Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Honda Civic Type R is claimed to achieve 0-100 kmph acceleration in just 5.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 275 kmph.
For braking, the hot hatch gets Brembo 4-piston aluminium brake callipers. It has 350mm front discs and 305mm rear discs. The hot hatch comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. For suspension duties, the Civic Type R gets Dual-Axis MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. It also has an Adaptive Damper System, which should improve its handling during sharp corners.

The new Honda Civic Type-R will come as a completely built-up (CBU) unit and will carry a high price tag. We expect the new hot hatch to cost somewhere around Rs 50 lakh to Rs 55 lakh. It will directly rival the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is tagged at Rs 53 lakh, ex-showroom.
