Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki has revised its EV plan for the Indian and global markets. The company earlier announced plans to introduce 6 new electric vehicles in the country by 2030. Instead of 6 EVs, the company will now launch four new EVs in India by FY2031. In fact, MSIL predicted a decline of 15% in its long-term sales outlook.
Maruti Suzuki's first electric vehicle for our market will be the e Vitara, which is scheduled to be launched in March 2025. The electric SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV and the Mahindra BE 6. Debuted at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, the new e Vitara will be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat based plant for India and export markets.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be offered in three variants - Delta, Zeta and Alpha. All the variants will have 2WD layout as standard. The entry-level Delta will come with a 48.8kWh battery pack, while the Zeta and Alpha variants will come with a larger 61.1kWh battery pack. The electric SUV will support both 7kW AC charging and 70kW DC fast charging.
The e Vitara will also debut several first for Maruti Suzuki in India. It will be the first Maruti car to feature Level 2 ADAS with features like forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and others. The SUV will also come with seven airbags.
In terms of features, the SUV will get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.1-inch digital driver's display, a panoramic glass roof, automatic climate control, and wireless phone charging. The e Vitara will come with an electric driver seat, ventilated front seats and reclining and sliding second-row seats.
It is expected that the Japanese brand could introduce an entry-level electric hatchback, a new electric MPV and an all-new electric sub-4 meter SUV. The company is reportedly to introduce an all-new e MPV in the country in 2026. It will be based on the same e HEARTECT platform that underpins the e Vitara.
The entry-level electric hatchback is likely to be based on the eWX concept and will be positioned against the Tata Tiago EV. A Fronx-sized electric SUV could also be launched towards the end of this decade. It was speculated that Suzuki is preparing an electric off-roader, which will share styling with the Jimny SUV. Toyota will also introduce its own version of the e Vitara and the YMC electric MPV. Toyota had showcased the Urban Cruiser EV at the 2025 Auto Expo.
