India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
• To be unveiled at 2023 Delhi Auto Expo • 30.4 kWh battery pack bigger than Tiago .EV • Sub-Rs 10 lakh expected starting price
The EV segment in India is currently among the fastest growing categories. While Tata Motors has quickly become the market leader in the country, others are yet to compete directly with its models, the likes of the Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV are positioned one segment higher.
However, French automaker Citroen is gearing up for an electric version of the New C3 hatchback, and will become one of the first models to directly compete against Tata. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming Citroen eC3.
Visually, the Citroen eC3 looks quite similar to the ICE-powered model but has a few key changes to differentiate itself. For example, the front profile features a slim twin-slat chrome grille that splits off into LED DRLs making it look sleek and unique within the segment. Moving to the side, you will notice that the charging port is placed on the right side of the front fender along with a set of new alloy wheels. Towards the rear, the design will remain more or less the same. Expect the electric hatchback to come with additional blue highlights and EV badging.
On the inside, it will provide a similar gray dashboard, which may be offered in a blue finish instead of orange as an option. Equipment list here could include features like a 10-inch infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, and more.
It is most likely that eC3 could come equipped with a 30.2 kWh battery pack. Powering a single front-axle mounted electric motor, the car should deliver a maximum power output of 86 bhp with 140 Nm of peak torque.
Both the battery size and power figures of the Citroen are higher than its direct rival, the Tiago .EV. Tata’s latest electric offering uses a 24 kWh battery pack while its single motor makes 74 bhp with 114 Nm of torque in the bigger Long Range variant.
Citroen will be pricing the eC3 quite aggressively to compete against the Tata Tiago .EV. Expect a sub-Rs 10 lakh starting price for the new electric hatchback. It is slated to be unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023, with the launch expected to take place a couple of months later.
