The SUV segment in India has seen a rapid growth. The new models with diversified ranges of features cater to different customer requirements have been introduced. The newly launched entries that certainly make an impact in the market are Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq. Each one of the SUVs has some special features and specifications that enable them to take a higher stand. Read on for a better comparison of the two for your final decision.
Kia Syros is available in two engine options. It has a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, which churns out 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Other one gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine, with 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The car has a 6-speed manual gearbox as a standard. While the diesel engine will get a 6-speed torque convertor automatic, the turbo petrol engine will have an option of a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or DCT.
On the other hand, Skoda Kylaq comes with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, 114 bhp, and 178 Nm of torque. 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard with an option of 6-speed automatic. Positioned as a performance car, the Kylaq can hit 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds which is very quick for its category.
Both SUVs have length almost in par. Kia Syros measures 3,995mm in length, and 1,800 in width and 1,665 in height. The wheelbase stretches to 2,550mm to allow room within. The Syros boot space is equally adequate too with 465 liters, ideal for luggage space and weekend travel.
The Skoda Kylaq is almost as long 3,995mm, but a bit more compact in width is 1,783mm and height is 1,619mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,566mm, which allows for more rear legroom. The Kylaq also boasts good boot space, measuring 446 litres, expandable to 1,265 litres when the rear seats are folded. Thus, it is a good choice for those who often travel with large luggage.
Kia Syros sports an aggressive, future-bound design and high stance with upright posture and sharp lines. Its bonnet is chiselled and LED headlamps are sleekly given with DRLs (daytime running lights) and L-shaped LED taillights. Other design highlights include a list that goes as follows: 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, and faux skid plates to complement its rugged look.
Skoda Kylaq, however, is much more minimalist. The front features crystal-clear rear LED lamps in the shape of a T light signature. Slim, stylish LED headlights at the front are accompanied by a wide black stripe at the back that carries the new Skoda wordmark. The two SUVs have 17-inch alloy wheels, adding to the premium look.
Inside, the Kia Syros is quite futuristic and advanced when it comes to the cabin. It features a 12.3-inch touch screen infotainment display along with a matching 12.3-inch digital driver's display. Other features include advanced materials, a 5-inch climate control display, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Panoramic sunroof, front and rear ventilated seats, wireless phone charger, and 64-colour ambient lighting - the list of premium-feel features goes on.
The Skoda Kylaq has a clean, simple, spacious cabin design. This vehicle comes with a 10-inch touch screen, 8-inch digital driver display, and connectivity for wireless Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. The list of features extends to ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable driver and co-driver seats, keyless entry, and leatherette upholstery. Ambient lighting also comes with the cabin, making it even better while driving.
Safety has not taken a back seat in the Kia Syros. It is armed with a host of standard safety kit, including six airbags, ESC, reversing camera and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems - lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and 360-degree camera feature among others - have also been thrown in for good measure. And there are front parking sensors and a dual dashcam, too.
Based on MQB A0 IN, even sturdier safety package lies in the Skoda Kylaq. This car gives 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, and ISOFIX mounts at every corner for child seats, too. However, Kylaq hasn't got any ADAS features.
Kia Syros is expected to come in around Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom). However, official pricing will be disclosed during Bharat Mobility Show 2025. The Syros will face stiff competition from Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Grand Vitara.
Skoda Kylaq is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.4 lakh ex-showroom. It competes in the sub-4 metre SUV segment. The fight is with Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
Kia Syros EV will be launched in the country in the first quarter of 2026 - it will be based on the same K1 platform that underpins the Hyundai Inster EV.
