The Korean automaker, Kia is preparing to launch 2 new mass-market electric vehicles in the Indian market. Moreover, the company will introduce the facelifted version of the EV6 GT which was unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Kia will launch its first locally developed mass-market electric MPV by mid-2025, most probably in June 2025. Adding to it, a new electric SUV based on the Kia Syros is also under development.
Kia will launch the Syros EV in the first quarter of 2026, between January and March. The electric SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
The all-electric Kia Syros is most likely to share the K1 platform with the Hyundai Inster EV on sale in select international markets. In fact, Hyundai is also planning to introduce the Inster EV in the country in 2026. The upcoming all-electric SUV will be a front-wheel-drive SUV. Not just the architecture, the Syros EV is expected to share the battery pack with its Korean sibling.
The Kia Syros EV is likely to be offered with 42kWh and 49kWh battery options, which are offered with the Inster. The 42kWh unit is claimed to offer WLTP-rated range of 300km, while the bigger 49kWh battery offers a range of up to 355km on a single charge. However, the India-spec model should offer a range of over 400km on a single charge.
The new Syros EV is expected to retain the original styling; however, it will have some EV-specific design changes. The electric SUV is likely to get a closed-off front grille, new bumper, and aero-optimized wheels. The Kia Syros EV interior will have similarities with the ICE model; however, it is likely to get new EV-specific displays and new upholstery.
In terms of features, the Syros EV is expected to get LEVEL 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a 5-inch touchscreen for the climate control system.
