Volkswagen India has recently launched the Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line as CBU models in the country. The company is preparing to launch 3 models, including a brand-new sub-4 meter SUV and facelifts of Taigun and Virtue sedan. Skoda is also preparing the Kushaq and Slavia facelifts, which are expected to be launched before the end of this year.
First launched in September 2021, the VW Taigun has been the best-selling Volkswagen car in India. This compact SUV has received multiple special editions and variants in the past 3-4 years. Volkswagen will give a mid-life facelift to the Taigun compact SUV and the Slavia sedan.
Volkswagen is yet to start testing the updated Taigun compact SUV, while its Czech sibling, the Kushaq facelift has already been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. We expect that the Volkswagen Taigun facelift will be launched in our market before the end of this financial year, by March 2026.
The Volkswagen Taigun facelift will receive cosmetic design and interior changes along with new features. The SUV will get some sheet metal changes and a heavily revised front fascia. It is likely to get a revised grille, slightly tweaked headlamp setup and LED DRLs, and a new lower bumper. The lower air-dam and fog lamp housing could also receive some changes.
The SUV is also expected to receive newly designed alloy wheels, new rear bumper, and a slightly tweaked tail-lights. Inside the cabin, the SUV could get new trim materials, new colour scheme and a new set of comfort and convenience features.
The big update is that the new Taigun facelift will receive LEVEL 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The ADAS features will include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, rear cross traffic alert, auto high beam and others. The SUV is also likely to get front parking sensors.
The Taigun facelift will continue to be offered with its current set of engines. This includes the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 115hp and 178Nm of torque, the 1.5L TSI unit produces 150hp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L unit, and a 7-speed DSG or dual-clutch gearbox with the 1.5L unit.
