Adding to the Defender family of cars, Land Rover revealed a new OCTA variant on Wednesday. The ‘OCTA’ name is inspired by a diamond, falling in line with Defender’s luxury and extreme toughness. Land Rover claims the OCTA is Defender’s most powerful and capable 110 iteration yet. India prices start at Rs. 2.65 crore, while the Edition One slated for its inaugural production year goes for Rs. 2.85 crore, both ex-showroom.
Overall silhouette remains similar to the Defender 110 but a larger grille, smoked alloys and OCTA badge on the C-pillar are new. A contrasting black roof and tailgate are standard across all OCTAs. Inside it houses an 11.4-inch touchscreen unit besides brand-new performance seats finished in a 3D-knit texture. New paint schemes like Faroe Green, Carpathian Grey and Petra Copper are to be made available apart from matt finishes for all colours.
Powered by incumbent BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8 engine, Land Rover has been bumped to 626 bhp and 750 Nm (800 Nm with Dynamic Launch Mode), making it the most powerful Defender ever. For reference, the standard supercharged Defender V8 churns out 518 horsepower. The setup is capable of hauling the 2,510 kg SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 4 seconds. Top speed comes at 250 kilometres per hour.
In terms of ride height and width, the SUV sees an increment of 68 mm and 28 mm, respectively, than the Defender 110. Water wading depth has leapt 10% to 1 metre or over 3 feet, another Defender-first. It also gets overhauled 400 mm discs ahead with Brembo callipers.
Suspension tweaks include 6D Dynamics with roll control and heavily reworked chassis bits. Land Rover has collaborated with Goodyear to equip the limited-edition car with Advanced All-Terrain rubber hugging 20-inch forged alloy wheels. However, the 250 kmph mark is achievable with 22-inch lightweight wheels running on all-terrain tyres.
