The updated Land Rover Defender has been revealed globally, and it’s expected to launch in India by late 2025. This will be the first major update to the current-generation Defender since it was introduced in 2019. Known for its strong build and off-road capabilities, the Defender now comes with fresh styling and more advanced features, while still keeping its iconic look.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has updated the Defender across all three versions – 90, 110, and 130. The SUV still has its bold and boxy design but now looks more modern with changes like new headlamp designs, smoother bumpers, and stylish alloy wheels. In global markets, it now gets 22-inch diamond-cut dark grey wheels and new paint options like Borasco Grey and Woolstone Green.
The SUV now comes with a gloss black grille bar, textured bonnet inserts, and updated side vents that add to its tough look. Darker tail lamps and black Defender-branded wheel caps give it a sleeker, stealthier vibe. The high-performance Defender Octa variant also gets new colour choices like Sargasso Blue and a matte Patagonia White wrap.
For those who like a premium touch, JLR now offers Chopped Carbon Fibre elements inside and outside the SUV, giving it a luxury-sporty feel.
Inside the cabin, the updated Defender gets a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen that replaces the older 10- and 11.4-inch units. This new screen makes it easier to control features and fits well with the SUV’s bold character.
A new Driver Attention Monitoring system has also been added. It uses a camera to track the driver’s focus and detect signs of tiredness. For off-road driving, there’s now an optional Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control that adjusts speed automatically, so the driver can focus on steering through rough paths.
There are no major changes to the engine or gearbox, and it’s likely the same options will continue. However, when it launches in India in the second half of 2025, the updated Defender might be assembled locally using CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits. This could help reduce prices compared to the fully imported models.
With more features, better tech, and a refreshed look, the 2025 Land Rover Defender is expected to be a strong contender in India’s growing luxury SUV market, attracting both loyal fans and new buyers.
