India's biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has confirmed its plan to roll out four electric cars (EVs) in India by 2030. The first one is going to be the e-Vitara, which will be an electric model of the top-selling Vitara SUV. This will be the debut in the growing electric car segment for Maruti Suzuki as it is determined to keep pace with increasing demand for environment-friendly and cheap vehicles. The e-Vitara is to be followed by three more electric vehicles, which will enable Maruti Suzuki to grow its electric car range in the years to come.
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it is going to introduce its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, in India soon. The e-Vitara is an electric SUV and the first step towards electric mobility for the company. The e-Vitara was originally unveiled at the Auto Expo 2025 and has been causing a buzz ever since.
Following the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki will launch three more electric vehicles in India through 2030. These are the Fronx EV, the electric model of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, a current crossover that has gained popularity. The Fronx is currently sold globally, and its electric counterpart will enable Maruti Suzuki to tap into India's increasing EV market.
Apart from the e-Vitara and Fronx, Maruti Suzuki has also been working on an electric Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ertiga is one of India's largest-selling MPVs. An electric version of the very same vehicle can be a massive hit, not only with people but also with families and institutions who require large cars to transport people. It will be popular with fleet owners who are looking for low-cost electric vehicles for deployment as well.
Though these three electric cars are confirmed, the details of the fourth model are still unclear. Maruti Suzuki has not yet shared much information about the fourth EV, but it could be another SUV or a smaller city car to cater to a larger group of customers.
Maruti Suzuki will dominate the Indian electric vehicle market. Maruti Suzuki is looking to reclaim its 50% of the Indian automobile market and electric vehicles are going to play a major role in it. Maruti Suzuki has announced that it is planning to produce affordable electric vehicles, which will be popular among the masses.
Maruti Suzuki’s approach to EVs is careful and step-by-step. The company will first launch bigger electric cars, like the e-Vitara and Fronx EV, which are expected to be popular among SUV buyers. Smaller electric cars, like the ones seen in Maruti Suzuki’s regular hatchback lineup, might come later. This will give the company time to understand the market and adapt its strategy based on the success of its initial electric cars.
The group entity of Maruti Suzuki, Suzuki, had previously stated that it would introduce six electric vehicles in India by 2030. The new plan is to introduce four electric models rather than six. But Maruti Suzuki is not giving up on electric mobility and will step up production of electric cars in India.
The e-Vitara will be the first electric car, and it will be launched soon. The price of the e-Vitara will be revealed in March. The company will proceed with the launch of the Fronx EV and maybe the Ertiga EV. The company is also looking at other possibilities, like a lower electric car to compete with vehicles like the Tata Tiago EV, which is a very affordable electric car in India.
Maruti Suzuki is also manufacturing these electric cars in India, and they will also be budget-friendly so that for Indians, prices will be less. Company electric vehicles will not only be found in India but will also be shipped to other nations in the future.
