The much-awaited new Maruti Suzuki Swift is scheduled to be launched in the second week of May 2024. Ahead of the official launch, Maruti Suzuki has started accepting pre-orders for the hatchback. Interested customers can book the new Swift online or at authorised Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with significantly revised styling, an all-new interior and an all-new engine. For people not in the know, Suzuki has already launched the new Swift in its home market. Compared to the Japan-spec model, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift will receive some India-specific changes.
It will be powered by an all-new 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated Z-Series petrol engine instead of the K-Series 4-cylinder unit. This lighter engine is compatible with BS6 emission standard and CAFE Phase 2 standards. This engine is capable of producing 82bhp of power and 108Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid tech has a DC synchronous motor, which offers an additional power and torque outputs of 3.1bhp and 60Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. Similar to the Japanese-spec model, the new Swift for India could also receive a CVT automatic gearbox.
It is designed and developed on the modified HEARTECT platform, which will also underpin the new Dzire. The Japanese-spec model was recently awarded 4 stars in the J-NCAP crash test. The new model is 3,860mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,500mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. Compared to the current model, the new Swift is 15mm longer; however the width and height are reduced by 40mm and 30mm respectively. It offers a boot space of 265-litres, which can be further extended by folding the second row seat.
The new Swift shares the cabin layout and features with the Baleno hatchback and the Fronx crossover. It will be equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, an automatic AC, a semi-digital instrument console, push button start-stop, reverse parking camera and others.
