Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer, is all set to introduce the new-gen Dzire sub-4 meter sedan, which has already been spotted testing multiple times. What's big is that Maruti Suzuki is now ready to enter the 7-seater midsize SUV category, which is dominated by Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. Moreover, the company will introduce its first electric vehicle in the country in 2025.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki 7-seater SUV will be based on the existing Global C-platform, which also underpins the Brezza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The architecture will be significantly modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase and a bigger SUV. The new Grand Vitara based 7-seater SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar.
Codenamed Y17, the new 3-row SUV is expected to be launched by mid-2025. It is likely to be offered in both 6 and 7-seat options. The 3-row SUV will be the first vehicle to be produced at Maruti Suzuki's new Kharkhoda-based facility in Haryana, which will be operational in 2025.
The new 7-seater Maruti Suzuki SUV is likely to source the engine options with the 5-seater sibling. It could be offered with both 1.5L K15C petrol mild-hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrain. We believe that Maruti Suzuki should utilise Toyota's 2.0L Strong hybrid engine to power the new 7-seater SUV.
The new 7-seater Maruti SUV is likely to offer more features compared to the 5-seater model. It could also receive advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and AWD setup, which will make it a more value-for-money and premium offering. The SUV is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.
