The French automaker, Renault is all set to reveal its much-awaited 7-seater SUV based on the third-generation Duster’s platform. Called the Renault Boreal, the new 3-row SUV will first launch in the Latin America, followed by 70 more countries including India. The Boreal SUV will also arrive in our market.
The new Renault SUV will make its global debut in the next few months. It will be sold in markets where Dacia name is not present. The new Renault Boreal SUV will launch in our market in the second half of 2026.
Renault Boreal will come with high level of localisation and is likely to be priced aggressively in the country. We expect the new Boreal 7-seater SUV to cost somewhere around Rs 13 lakh and 23 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
The Boreal will look largely identical to the Dacia Bigster; however, Renault will make necessary changes to give it the brand’s identity. The SUV will have the typical Renault front design, which we have already seen on the new-gen Duster. It will have a Duster-like grille with chrome inserts, and sleeker headlamps with Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps. The lower bumper will have large air intakes at both ends, and a low-set fog lamps. The SUV will have a raised bonnet with sharp creases.
Some of the design highlights will include squared-off wheel arches, roof rails, body cladding, 18-19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, V-shaped LED tail-lamps with a Y-shaped signature, and an integrated roof spoiler. Dimensionally, the Renault Boreal will be similar to the Bigster. The later measures 4570mm in length, 1810mm in width, and 1710mm in height with a wheelbase of 2700. It will have a ground clearance of 220mm, while the boot space stands at 667-litres.
The new Renault Boreal will share its cabin features and layout with the new-gen Duster SUV. To be positioned above the Duster, the new SUV could get more premium features. It is expected to be equipped with a 10.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully-digital instrument console. The SUV is also likely to get a panoramic sunroof, an Arkamys sound system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, 2-zone climate control, and ADAS suite.
The global-spec Renault Boreal will be offered with multiple powertrains including the 1.2L turbo petrol with mild-hybrid tech, a 1.3L turbo petrol, a 1.6L strong hybrid and LPG. The India-spec model will get the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT.
The company is also considering hybrid powertrain for the new Duster and Boreal SUVs. This model could get a 94bhp, 1.6L naturally-aspirated petrol engine combined to a strong hybrid sectup comprising a 49bhp electric motor, a high voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 140bhp.
