India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Skoda Auto India has officially announced that it will be launching a new subcompact SUV for the Indian market. During a recent media event, the Czech automotive manufacturer revealed its plans to introduce a sub-4 metre SUV by March 2025 under its India 2.5 initiative. During the same event, the brand offered a glimpse of the forthcoming model.
Here is what we can expect:
The upcoming compact SUV will be built on the MQB A0 IN architecture. That means a lot of the parts will be made locally in India. So, it might be a good choice for people looking for a new SUV.
Although the company has not revealed the name of the upcoming subcompact SUV yet, it has put forward several options for consideration. Among these are Kwiq, Kylaq, Kyroq, Kariq, and Kymaq, each accompanied by a unique tagline emphasizing its features.
In a recent presentation, Skoda provided a brief preview of the SUV, showcasing its sculpted hood, split lighting setup, sleek LED DRLs positioned atop, roof rails, and flared wheel arches. Positioned prominently at the centre, just above the distinctive Butterfly grille, is the Skoda logo.
Under the hood, it is expected that the upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV will be equipped with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine. This unit is said to deliver a maximum power output of 114 bhp with 178 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
This strategy will enable the manufacturer to competitively price the SUV against its rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet Facelift, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV300 among others.
