India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
According to a latest media report, Volkswagen is currently developing an all-new three-row SUV for global markets. It will likely be called the Tayron, and will be based on the MQB-A2 platform that will also underpin the Next-Generation Škoda Kodiaq. The full grown SUV will replace the seven-seat Tiguan AllSpace in the brand’s product lineup, featuring a completely new design. We take a closer look.
Volkswagen already sells a 5-seat SUV named the Tayron, but it is currently exclusive to the Chinese market. The next-gen model will be sold globally and will be a larger version of the vehicle to accommodate the third-row of seats. It will be manufactured in Germany after which the four-wheeler will be exported to other markets.
The new 7-seat Tayron is expected to be positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg SUVs in the company model lineup. However, unlike the Tiguan Allspace which looks similar to the 5-seat Tiguan, the Tayron will get an all-new design to help differentiate the two SUVs.
While its sibling the Next-generation Škoda Kodiaq which will be unveiled this year, the Tayron is expected to enter into production in 2024 at the earliest. The brand may introduce the new SUV in India around the year 2025.
As just mentioned, the All-New Tayron is expected to come into the Country somewhere in the year 2025. The all new SUV will be brought in via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, in order to keep its overall price down.
Before that though, Volkswagen India is planning to launch a couple of new models in our market. The first of these will be the ID4 that VW has been testing in Indian conditions for a while now. The EV is slated to launch by the end of 2023 or early-2024. The automaker may also import the Fifth-Generation Polo GTI in small numbers to cater to enthusiasts.
