First launched in January 2019, the Tata Harrier has been one of the most popular mid-sized SUVs on sale in the Indian market. The SUV received its first major mid-life facelift in October 2023. It will also receive an electric derivative in 2025. The new MODEL comes with an upgraded styling and an all-new interior with several new high-end features.
The Tata Harrier SUV is available with a single 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. Customers can choose between manual and automatic gearbox options. This C-segment SUV is designed and developed on the OmegaArc platform, which is basically a re-engineered version of the Jaguar Land Rover D8 architecture.
The new Harrier comes loaded with several new features, which makes it more competitive against its rivals. The SUV comes with an LED lighting system including LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED tail-lamps and LED turn indicators. The SUV is offered with two touchscreen infotainment options - 10.25-inch and 12.3-inch, depending on the variant.
The Tata Harrier features a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a new two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, a rotary knob drive selector with a digital display, dual-zone climate control, powered driver's seat, JBL sound system, panoramic sunroof and others.
The new Harrier is built on the brand's Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture, which is derived from Land Rover's D8 platform. The SUV measures 4,605mm in length, 1,922mm in width (without ORVM) and 1,718mm in height. It rides on a 2,741mm long wheelbase, which ensures excellent space for all occupants and a large boot space. With all 5-seats in position, the SUV offers a luggage space of 445-litres. The boot space can be further extended to 815-litres by folding the rear seat.
The new Harrier comes with an all-new front fascia, featuring a new grille with chrome treatment and a split headlamp design. There is a full-width LED light bar that runs above the upper grille. There is a new front bumper that splits into two sections using a gloss black bar. The lower bumper has wider air-intake and glossy black treatment. The main headlamp unit is placed on the lower bumper, while the LED DRLs are placed on the top.
The side profile retains the original look; except for the newly styled 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels. The 19-inch alloys are only available with the Dark edition variants. At the back, the new Harrier comes with a restyled bumper and new LED lighting elements for the tail-lamp housing.
The new Harrier cabin has received major changes in the form of new features and new materials on different body panels. Instead of the faux wood trim, the dashboard now has multiple trims including a textured top panel and gloss black surfaces. It has leatherette padding with contrasting stitching. There is a slim strip of LED ambient light on the dashboard.
The entry-level variants are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, while the higher variants get a 12.3-inch freestanding touchscreen unit. There is a touch-based panel positioned right below the central air con vents. This panel houses controls for air conditioning, and other functions. The rotary dial for gear shifts is now replaced by a conventional gear lever.
It gets a new 10.25-inch digital instrument console, which displays multiple information including ADAS features. There is a new twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata Motors logo. There is a rotary knob for the drive selector, which has a digital display. Other big changes include a dual-zone climate control, 10-speaker JBL-sound system, a 360-degree surround view camera, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver's seat and others.
The new Harrier is one of the safest SUVs on sale in our country, as it received a 5 star crash test rating from GNCAP. The SUV comes equipped with up to 7 airbags, ABS with EBD & brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 3-point ELR seat belt for all passengers, and electronic stability program (ESP).
The SUV comes with a 360-degree surround view camera, hill-hold control and others. The new Tata Harrier is offered with an advanced driver assistance system or ADAS. The ADAS tech offers features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear collision warning, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert and door open alert.
The Harrier is available in 5 trim levels and in total of 25 variants. The new Tata Harrier is available at a starting price of Rs 1499000 which goes up to Rs 2589000 for the top-end variant (ex-showroom).
The new Tata Harrier is powered by the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Safari. This Fiat-sourced turbo diesel engine is capable of producing 167.6bhp of power at 3,750rpm and a peak torque of 350Nm between 1,750-2,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The automatic gearbox is sourced from Hyundai.
The new Harrier also comes with three terrain response modes - Normal, Rough and Wet. Adding to it, the SUV offers 3 driving modes - Eco, City and Sports. The suspension setup is claimed to be tuned for the new model to offer better driving experience on our roads.
The Harrier diesel manual is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 16.8kmpl. On the other hand, the Harrier diesel automatic returns a mileage of 14.6kmpl.
The new Tata Harrier directly rivals the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra Scorpio N, MG Hector and Jeep Compass. It also challenges the higher-spec variants of the Hyundai Creta, VW Taigun and the Kia Seltos.
