The MG Windsor EV will be the third electric vehicle from the house of Morris Garages in India. Moreover, it will be the first model from MG after the official announcement of JSW and SAIC partnership in India. While official bookings are yet to commence, select MG dealers have already started taking pre-orders for the Windsor EV.
It is basically a re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, which is on sale in International markets including Indonesia and Thailand. The company is marketing the new utility vehicle as the Crossover Utility Vehicle or CUV. It measures 4.3 meters in length and has a wheelbase of around 2.7 meters.
Not just the platform, the new MG Windsor EV is expected to share the battery pack and electric motor with the Cloud EV. It is available with two battery packs - a 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh - paired to a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The smaller battery pack is claimed to return a range of up to 360km in a single charge, while the later delivers a range of up to 460km. The India-spec model is likely to offer a certified range of over 500km on a single charge.
MG Motor India has already released the teasers of the Windsor EV, which reveals that it shares majority of the design with the global-spec Cloud EV. It comes with LED headlamps and connected LED DRLs at the front. The MORRIS GARAGES lettering is placed above the front bumper, while the MG Logo is positioned below the LED DRL strip. The charging flap is placed on the front fender.
The side profile has simple lines and aerodynamically designed 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear profile also has a connected LED light bar that runs across the width, while the WINDSOR lettering is placed under the tail-lights.
The new MG Windsor electric CUV will come equipped with a segment-leading 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with voice navigation. Called the Grandview display, the new touchscreen infotainment unit is the largest among its current MG cars on sale in our market. In fact, it is the largest screen available in its category.
The new Windsor EV will come equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument console, which appears similar to the one offered in the Comet EV. Adding to it, the electric CUV gets ambient lighting, twin-spoke steering wheel, and cruise control feature.
The new MG Windsor EV will come with electrically adjustable driver's seat. Adding to it, the electric CUV will come with India's first Aero-lounge seats with 135 degree recline. This ensures a comfortable travel experience to all the occupants in the second-row. It comes with all-black leatherette seats with headrests for all 3 occupants in the second-row. There is a centre armrest, dedicated AC unit and charging slots. The CUV will have mood lighting and bronze treatment all around the cabin.
The previous teasers reveal that the MG Windsor EV will come with a full-width panoramic glass roof, which seems identical to the one offered on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV. This sunroof covers the entire roof, which would give the MG Windsor's cabin an airy feel.
For safety and security, the MG Windsor EV will have 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold control (HHC), electronic parking brake with auto hold function, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and others. It could also receive Level 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, auto high beam, blind spot monitoring and others.
The new Windsor EV will come with 18-inch alloy wheels with a diamond cut design. It is likely to be wrapped with 215/55 section tyres. The wheel size is similar to the one offered on the Tata Curvv EV.
The new model will go on sale in our market on September 9, 2024. The new Windsor EV will sit between the Comet EV and the ZS EV in MG Motor India's line-up. It is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. At this price tag, the e-CUV will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
