The Korean automaker, Kia is banking big on India to achieve its global sale target of 4.19 million vehicles in 2030. The company claims that EVs will account for 1.26 million units and HEVs for 1.07 million unit. In India, the Korean brand sets a sales target of 400,000 units by the end of this decade, with EVs and HEVs are expected to account for 43 percent of the overall sales.
Kia will soon launch a new electric MPV based on the Carens facelift. The Carens EV is expected to be launched in June-July 2025. Adding to it, the Korean brand has started working on the electric version of the Kia Syros compact. These two models will play an important role in Kia's goal of reaching 18 percent EV mix by 2030.
The Kia Syros EV is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2026. Set to be Kia's smallest-ever EV, the upcoming Syros EV is likely to share its powertrain and underpinnings with the Carens EV. Both EVs will use the modified version of the Hyundai Group K2 platform that underpins the Creta EV.
The electric SUV is likely to be offered with the same battery options as the Creta Electric. It could be offered with a 42kWh battery pack and a 51.4kwh battery pack. The Syros EV is likely to be a front-wheel-drive model with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The small EV is likely to offer a range of around 450-500km in a single charge.
The new Kia Syros EV will look similar to the original model; however, it will have some EV-specific design changes. It is likely to get a closed-off front grille, new bumper, and aero-optimized wheels. The electric SUV is likely to share features with the ICE model. The EV will have LEVEL 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, and a 5-inch display for the climate control system.
