Jeep has taken off the cover from their upcoming three-row SUV Meridian specially developed for customers in India
It was just a few days ago that Jeep India had revealed the name of their upcoming 7-seater SUV as the Meridian. At that point the American automaker had shared a heavily camouflaged image of the SUV showcasing its overall proportions. Now the company has taken off the cover from the four-wheeler and provided us a glimpse of its exterior design and interior features.
To be manufactured in India, production of the New Jeep Meridian will begin in May 2022 at the Ranjangaon joint venture manufacturing facility in Pune. With 80 percent localization of content, the exterior design of the vehicle will be a blend of Jeep Compass and the New Jeep Grand Cherokee. Key highlights here would include Jeep’s traditional seven-slat grille, LED headlamps and fog lamps, a new front bumper comprising LED DRL’s, body cladding, roof rails and a panoramic sunroof. The side profile will provide the option of 17-inch and 18-inch wheels depending upon the variant selected. While the rear will feature horizontally placed LED tail lights, an integrated spoiler, boot-lid mounted number plate recess and a bumper with integrated reflectors.
Interior of New Jeep Meridian will offer a new dashboard like the one seen in the Jeep Compass. The three-row SUV will provide a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with U-Connect 5 having connected car features like geofence, OTA updates, remote commands, Find My Jeep and towing notification. These will be offered as standard fittings. Further there will be ventilated front seats, while the 2nd and 3rd row of seats will get individual AC vents alongside USB ports for charging your electronic equipment. From the aspect of safety, the off-roader is expected to come equipped with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, Hill-Start Assist, traction control, electronic parking brakes and more.
Jeep 7-seater SUV is expected to be powered by three different powertrains – one petrol and two diesels. The petrol engine would be a 1.4-litre MultiAir mill delivering a power output of 160 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. While the diesel variants would include a 2.0-litre Multi-jet engine capable of producing 170 bhp and 350 Nm torque. There is speculation that a new 2.4-litre Tigershark four-cylinder diesel engine could on the cards making 184 bhp and 243 Nm torque. Transmission choices would include a 6-speed manual, a 9-speed torque converter, a 7-speed DCT automatic and a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
