5 New Mahindra Petrol & Diesel SUVs Coming Soon

While Mahindra is working on its Born Electric (BE) range, it is also preparing to launch a series of petrol and diesel SUVs in the domestic market. These cars will expand the homegrown brand’s current ICE portfolio and compete with top-selling products from brands like Tata and Hyundai.

Mahindra XUV 1XO

Mahindra KUV100

The discontinued Mahindra KUV100 micro-SUV could make a comeback in the domestic market in the coming years. In 2024, the segment is now matured with the likes of Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. In terms of powertrain, we expect the SUV to arrive with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 82bhp and 115Nm of torque. Mahindra had pulled the plug on its diesel engine and did not renew it for BS6 emission norms in 2020. It might become the only diesel micro-SUV upon launch but that remains to be seen. The homegrown brand filed a patent for the ‘XUV 1XO’ moniker earlier this year.

Next-Generation Mahindra Bolero

Mahindra Bolero

The next-generation Mahindra Bolero will be designed on an all-new platform - internally codenamed U171. Reports suggest that the same ICE architecture will be used in six other models including SUVs and pick-up trucks. Mahindra plans a combined sales of around 1.5 lakh units per annum. To save on tax, the 5-seater SUV is likely to have a length of under 4 metres. Further, its 9-seater iteration with 4 seats in the first row is also expected to launch and rival the extremely popular Force Citiline. While newer engine options are anticipated, it may continue with the tried and tested 1.5-litre diesel unit generating 75bhp and 210Nm of torque.

Mahindra XUV 5XO (XUV 500 Replacement)

Mahindra XUV500

Another recent trademark, the Mahindra XUV 5XO will be a compact SUV (over 4 metres) which will be positioned between the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Mahindra XUV700. The space that has been there after the Mahindra XUV500 was discontinued in 2021 will be filled with a monocoque SUV. While it used to get the all-wheel drive (AWD) earlier, the five-seater SUV may re-enter as a front-wheel drive (FWD) this time to keep the costs under the XUV700. Reportedly, Mahindra is working on a new FWD platform to accommodate cars between 3.8 metres and 4.3 metres in length. It is assumed that it will be heavily localised as well. Mahindra may borrow the turbo-petrol and diesel engines from the XUV3XO for the XUV5XO and also equip it with the new 1.5-litre TGDi engine. Rivals will include the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Mahindra XUV700 Coupe

Mahindra XUV700 Coupe

After enjoying huge success with the Mahindra XUV700, a coupe version of the SUV will likely be introduced. First showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as XUV Aero Concept, recent spy shots reveal that it will look similar to the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e9 and rival the trending coupe SUV segment that includes the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt right now. The Mahindra XUV700 coupe SUV will share mStallion petrol and mHawk diesel engines with the XUV700 currently on sale. The ex-showroom price of the Citroen Basalt starts at Rs 7.99 lakh, while the Tata Curvv ICE has a price tag of Rs 9.99 lakh. For your reference, the XUV700 starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It will be a challenge for Mahindra to competitively price its coupe SUV and compete with its segment rivals.

Mahindra Scorpio N-Based Pick-Up Truck

Mahindra Scorpio N Pik Up Truck

In 2019, the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway pick-up truck was discontinued and was essentially a double cab pick-up version of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic. During its production, it used to come with 4x4 functionality and was rear-wheel drive (RWD). However, a second-generation Scorpio Getaway is in the works and its concept model called the ‘Global Pik Up’ was showcased in 2023. It will be based on the Mahindra Scorpio N platform which is also shared with the Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV. Engine options are still not known but we believe it will get the 2.2-litre diesel engine good for up to 173 bhp and 400Nm of torque with a torque converter automatic.
