Citroen Basalt Production Begins in India

In March 2024, the Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV made its global unveil in its close-to-production concept. Later, the coupe SUV was spied undisguised in the near-production-ready avatar in India, indicating its launch this year. Ahead of its launch, the Basalt has entered the series production at its Thiruvallur facility located in Tamil Nadu, India. This manufacturing plant also produces the C3 Aircross SUV, C3 hatchback, and its electric variant, the eC3.

Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV: Key Highlights

The near-production-ready model hinted that the upcoming Basalt SUV coupe will be 4,300 mm in length. This car is designed to compete with Tata Curvv which will also make its entry later this year.

In terms of design, the Basalt will have a distinct sloping roofline. It will feature an aggressive front, wraparound LED taillamps, squared-off wheel arches, a lifted tailgate section, and flip door handles.

With its unique design, the Basalt will be a different-looking alternative to its own C3 Aircross SUV and other popular mid-size SUVs such as Taigun, Seltos, Creta, Grand Vitara, and Kushaq.

Powertrain

As for the engine, the Basalt is likely to come equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This unit can produce the maximum power of 109 bhp and 205 Nm of torque, similar to the C3 Aircross SUV. Moreover, the new Coupe SUV will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission.
