Hyundai Motors India is going to launch its next electric car in the market. It will be the electrified version of the popular Creta SUV. The brand is expected to launch Creta EV next year, most probably at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. Ahead of that, the electric SUV has been spied testing several times on roads which gave us some ideas about its design features and technology.
Get more insights on its design, features, battery pack, and range.
From the design perspective, the Creta EV will look similar to its ICE-powered version. However, it will feature some EV-specific design elements such as a closed-off front grille with the charging port. Previous spy shots have also confirmed that the upcoming Hyundai electric SUV will highlight new front and rear bumpers, fresh aero-optimized alloy wheels, and connected LED tail lamps.
Hyundai, for its new electric Creta, will use the same dashboard layout and HVAC panel as the ICE model. However, the centre console will get a new treatment; it will have repositioned ventilated seat buttons, an electronic parking brake, a rotary dial for the drive mode selector, and cup holders. Another change would be the 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters and the drive selector stalk on the steering column.
The electric Creta will also come with a 10.25-inch dual-screen setup for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Other feature highlights include a dual-zone climate control, cruise control, an auto-dimming IRVM, a powered driver seat, and a panoramic sunroof. A 360-degree camera and the Level 2 ADAS suit will also be on offer.
Hyundai has not confirmed the battery details for the Creta EV. Speculations suggest that Hyundai will offer a 45kWh battery unit with a front-axle-mounted motor. This motor can churn out the maximum power of 136 bhp and 255 Nm of torque. It is expected to offer a range of 450 km.
Hyundai will begin the production of the Creta EV by the end of this year (December 2024). Previous reports claimed that the brand aims to manufacture at least 24,000 units annually.
Hyundai Creta EV will give direct competition to the Tata Curvv EV (Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh), MG Windsor EV (Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh), and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX and Mahindra BE.05. Looking at their rivals, the Creta EV is expected to be priced at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
