Following Hyundai Motor India’s recent update where it upgraded its vehicle lineup to comply with the BS6 Phase II Emission Norms, the Korean automaker has now announced another update to some of its models. This time, the brand has added safety features to the Creta mid-size SUV and the Venue subcompact SUV. We take a closer look.
With Hyundai’s latest update, all variants of the Creta now feature 3-point seat belts as standard upfront while the rear now provides adjustable headrests and 60:40 split seats. Additionally, the mid-size SUV also gets a 2-step recline option for the rear seats.
Post the RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms update, the Creta is now offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine alongside a 1.5-litre turbo diesel powertrain option. Its 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor has been discontinued, and will soon be replaced with a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit.
Like the Hyundai Creta, the Venue now offers 3-point seatbelts on all seats as well as adjustable headrests towards the rear. It also provides 60:40 split folding rear seats and a 2-step reclinable back bench. These features are standard across all Hyundai Venue variants.
The Government of India has been asking for stricter safety standards and more features on new cars for sometime now. It is also pushing for a standardized crash test safety rating for all cars sold in India, making 6 airbags and three-point seatbelts compulsory. The new safety regulations are expected to come into effect from October 2023.
Hyundai has just revealed the first teaser for its new upcoming micro-SUV. Called the Exter, it will be the smallest SUV in the brand’s product lineup. It will sit between the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and Venue.
As far as rivals go, it will go up against the Citroen C3 and the Tata Punch in its category.
