Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has announced that it will reveal its first all-electric car globally in 2028. The brand also stated that its New Revuelto Hybrid is sold out till 2026.
Lamborghini’s first EV is going to be a 2+2 grand tourer and is expected to be underpinned by an existing pure electric platform from the VW group. We take a closer look.
The upcoming electric GT’s styling will be inspired by the Lamborghini Estoque Concept from 2008. Back then, the concept never made it to production as the automaker diverted its focus on making an SUV instead. Given the current success of the Urus, it has turned out to be a great decision for the brand.
While little details have been revealed, the New Lamborghini electric GT will have a higher ground clearance than the brand’s current supercars. This is to make space for the floor-mounted battery pack. It will have even more radical styling to stand out from other Lamborghinis and highlight its electric powertrain.
There are no technical details available about the upcoming GT. However, the brand has hinted that it will use the Artemis platform developed by Audi and Bentley. As a part of the VW group, Lamborghini will be able to access the platform to underpin its new electric GT.
The company has stated that it will unveil an all-electric Urus in 2029 following the electric GT’s launch. The brand is aiming to use the GT to attract a family-oriented clientele who are open to adopting EVs. Before the Urus EV arrives, Lamborghini will give the current model a heavy update and is expected to introduce a new plug-in hybrid powertrain as well.
