Mahindra & Mahindra has been developing a pure-electric version of the XUV700 ever since it was launched globally on 15 August 2022. Now, a leaked design patent has revealed what the production-spec electric SUV based on the XUV700 will look like. We check it out.
The new leaked patent image revealed most of the design of the production-spec XUV.e8. It confirms that the electric SUV will retain the styling of last year’s concept and also share similarities with the XUV700.
The XUV.e8 will feature an all-new front end featuring a full-width LED light bar that also has vertical elements on the edges. It gets a closed-off grille and new triangular headlights that sit lower on the bumper. Moving to the side, the design is fairly identical to the XUV700 with a similar windowline and flush-fitting door handles. However, it will get new aero-optimized alloy wheels.
While the rear end is not visible in the leaked image, the electric SUV is likely to have a similar design to the XUV700 with minor tweaks highlighting its electric drivetrain.
Like the XUV400, the .e8 will feature copper highlighting around the headlights, bumpers, window line, and the Mahindra logo. This highlighting will become a signature element of the brand’s other upcoming EVs as well.
The upcoming XUV.e8 will likely use an 80 kWh battery pack that will power a dual-electric motor AWD setup. Combined, it is expected to make around 230 bhp - 350 bhp of peak power while the range will be around 400 km on a full charge.
While the XUV.e8 will look similar to the XUV700, it will be underpinned by Mahindra’s bespoke INGLO skateboard platform. The XUV.e8 will measure 4.74 metres in length, 1.76 metres in height, and be 1.9 metres wide. It will also have a wheelbase of 2,762 mm. This makes the electric SUV slightly larger than the XUV700 in all dimensions.
The Xuv.e8 is slated to be the first of Mahindra’s upcoming born-EVs to go into production. It is slated for a late-2024 launch.
